Job description

The Team Lead – Control Engineering will be responsible for leading a team of control engineers and power systems engineers, driving the development of advanced grid control solutions and ensuring best practices in control product development. This role requires deep technical leadership, systems design expertise, and a strong understanding of software engineering principles, such as automated testing and continuous integration (CI), to enhance the control development workflow.

The Control & Communication department is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining control and regulation solutions used for managing power plants, including wind power plants, solar farms, batteries, and hybrid energy systems.

Key responsibilities

As the Technical Lead - Control, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as technical authority for control and power systems engineering decisions in product development
  • Defining technical strategies for control product development and grid integration
  • Driving the implementation of automated testing, CI/CD, and software engineering best practices within control system development
  • Overseeing the development of optimal control strategies and grid connection solutions
  • Ensuring compliance with grid regulations, industry standards, and customer requirements
  • Setting technical direction through requirements, interfaces, acceptance criteria, and design reviews
  • Mentoring engineers through technical guidance, reviews, and knowledge sharing (without line-management responsibilities)
  • Managing project timelines, resources, and ensuring on-time delivery of high-quality solutions
  • Engaging with internal stakeholders, customers, and regulatory bodies to align technical decisions with business and compliance needs

Your background

The ideal candidate has Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in control engineering or power systems engineering.

  • Demonstrate experience in systems design and integration
  • Have familiarity with software engineering principles, particularly automated testing and CI/CD methodologies
  • Possess a deep understanding of power system modeling and grid control applications
  • Be skilled in MATLAB/Simulink, PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, Simscape Electrical, or similar tools
  • Demonstrate technical authority through decision ownership, design reviews, and requirements decomposition
  • Work well in cross-functional environments, integrating control, power systems, and software engineering
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in control product development
