Job summary

Uber is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to anchor the Configuration Platform and build the dependable, high-performance foundation for global applications.

You will design scalable distribution, rollback, observability, and recovery for massive-scale workloads while guiding architecture and standards across teams. You will mentor engineers, lead critical initiatives, and balance AI-first approaches with code quality.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience building scalable, fault-tolerant products or platforms.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Go, C/C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript) and ability to define organization-wide standards.
• Experience leading large-scale engineering projects end-to-end.
• Experience identifying architectural gaps and reducing technical debt.

Responsibilities

• Design systems that safely distribute, roll out, observe, and recover configuration changes.
• Collaborate with teams building configuration systems and products on top of Config Platform.
• Provide deep technical mentorship across the stack.
• Lead and mentor engineers, reviewing code and designs with a focus on scalability and security.
