Job summary

Uber is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to be the technical anchor for the Configuration Platform, building scalable systems that power our global applications and a reliable configuration distribution system.

You will design distributed configuration systems, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams to ensure that the platform meets evolving scalability, performance, and security requirements. In-office presence is expected at least 50% of the time.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience building scalable, fault-tolerant systems.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Go, C/C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript).
• Proven experience leading large-scale engineering projects through the full lifecycle.
• Experience reducing architectural debt and identifying gaps across the org.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Design systems that safely distribute, roll out, observe, and recover configuration changes at global scale.
• Collaborate with teams building configuration systems and products on top of the Config Platform.
• Provide deep technical mentorship across the stack and ensure robust, secure implementations.
• Lead and mentor engineers, review code and designs, and foster continuous learning.
