Job summary

JBT Marel is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Aarhus to design and implement embedded software for advanced food processing equipment. Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or similar.
• Strong experience with modern C++ in embedded/industrial software.
• Solid background in Linux-based embedded platforms and cross-compilation.
• Experience developing software close to hardware, devices or machines.
• Understanding of real-time or deterministic behavior in production systems.
• Structured and analytical, with clear design of reliable systems.
• Senior technical contributor in Scrum teams with mentoring experience.
• Strong communication in an international environment (English required).

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing industrial-grade embedded software systems for advanced food processing equipment.

Working closely with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers, you will contribute across the full product lifecycle—from concept development and architecture to implementation, testing, and long-term maintenance.

This role is centered on robust, high-performance, and reliable software in complex industrial environments where quality and correctness are critical.

What You’ll Do

Software Development & System Ownership

• Design and implement embedded and industrial software primarily in modern C++
• Develop software close to hardware, machines, and devices, ensuring optimal performance and reliability
• Take end-to-end ownership of features and components—from idea and architecture to deployment and maintenance

Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Contribute to system-level thinking and software architecture decisions
• Drive technical direction and best practices within the team
• Ensure solutions meet performance, stability, and long-lifecycle requirements

Quality & Engineering Excellence

• Act as a quality champion, ensuring software meets industrial-grade standards
• Own coding standards, reviews, and technical improvements
• Deliver robust, deterministic, and maintainable software built for long-living products

Collaboration & Agile Execution

• Work in a Scrum-based environment, contributing to planning, refinement, and retrospectives
• Collaborate closely with software, hardware, and systems engineers
• Communicate clearly about technical trade-offs, risks, and dependencies

Mentorship & Team Development

• Act as a senior role model within the team
• Support and mentor colleagues through code reviews, sparring, and feedback
• Contribute to continuous improvement of both product and team ways of working

• Experience working on long lifecycle products with evolving platforms
• Exposure to MES/production systems or IoT integrations (e.g. Azure-based ecosystems)
