Job summary

NACOS Marine seeks a Senior Service Engineer (Automation) to join our team in Sæby/Frederikshavn. You will program, commission, and support IAS/IAMCS and SCADA systems for vessels, including cruise ships and large commercial ships.

You will work with shipowners, shipyards, and internal engineering teams, delivering automation solutions across newbuilds, refits, upgrades, and warranty activities with international travel and onboard assignments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Automation, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Perform commissioning, service, refits, and upgrades of marine automation and SCADA systems.
• Support FAT, HAT, and Sea Trials, including onboard commissioning activities.
• Diagnose and resolve complex software and hardware issues during service execution.
• Develop, modify, and standardize PLC/SCADA software both in-house and onboard vessels.
• Handle warranty cases for newbuild and retrofit projects, including remote and onsite support.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation such as functional descriptions, drawings, and interface documentation.
• Support class compliance activities and system handover to shipowners, shipyards, and classification societies.
• Communicate professionally with customers and stakeholders during project execution.

Role Overview

We are now looking for a Senior Service Engineer (m/f/d) Automation to join our team in Sæby/Frederikshavn. In this role, you will be responsible for programming, commissioning, and supporting Integrated Alarm & Control Systems (IAS/IAMCS) and SCADA solutions for vessels, primarily cruise ships and large commercial vessels.

You will work closely with shipowners, shipyards, and internal engineering teams, delivering high-quality automation solutions across newbuilds, refits, upgrades, and warranty activities. The role combines hands‑on technical work with strong customer interaction and requires international travel and onboard assignments.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform commissioning, service, refits, and upgrades of marine automation and SCADA systems
• Support FAT, HAT, and Sea Trials, including onboard commissioning activities
• Diagnose and resolve complex software and hardware issues during service execution
• Develop, modify, and standardize PLC/SCADA software both in‑house and onboard vessels
• Handle warranty cases for newbuild and retrofit projects, including remote and onsite support
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation such as functional descriptions, drawings, and interface documentation

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
• Solid hands‑on experience with industrial automation, SCADA systems, and PLC programming (IEC 61131-3: ST, LD, FBD, etc.)
• Strong troubleshooting skills across automation software, electronics, and industrial networks
• Experience with common marine and industrial communication protocols (e.g. Modbus, NMEA, OPC, Profibus)
• Comfortable working onboard vessels and traveling internationally for service and commissioning activities
• Fluent in Danish and English, both written and spoken
• Ability to obtain NATO and national security clearance in accordance with authority regulations
• Valid driver’s license

Additional Knowledge (Advantageous)

• Experience with Power Management Systems (PMS), propulsion control, and alarm & monitoring systems
• Familiarity with classification society requirements and approval documentation
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming (e.g. C++ / C#) for tools, utilities, or integrations
