Qualifications

• Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple teams on site.
• Sound commercial awareness and experience of contract and change management.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Commitment to health, safety and quality standards.
• Fluent English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of the shipyard project from planning through to completion and handover.
• Develop and maintain the project schedule, budget and resource plan, and report progress against them.
• Manage project risks and issues, create mitigation plans and escalate as needed.
• Coordinate engineering, procurement, production and subcontractor activities on site.
• Manage scope, change control and variations with the commercial team and client.
• Lead and support the project team with clear priorities and accountability.
• Be the main point of contact for the client and stakeholders with regular progress meetings and reports.
• Promote high standards of health, safety and environmental performance.

About the role

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead a shipyard project in Esbjerg, Denmark, on a contract basis. The role carries overall responsibility for delivering the project safely, on time and within budget, from planning and mobilisation through to completion and handover.

You will manage the project team and coordinate the many parties involved, including engineering, procurement, production, subcontractors and the client's own stakeholders. You will own the project plan, budget and risk register, and be the main point of contact for progress, change and commercial matters.

The role suits a project manager who is used to working in a yard environment and can make sound decisions under pressure. Strong leadership, commercial awareness and clear communication will be important, as will the ability to keep a complex, multi-discipline project moving while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Main responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of the shipyard project from planning and mobilisation through to completion and handover
• Develop and maintain the project schedule, budget and resource plan, and report progress against them
• Manage project risks and issues, putting mitigation plans in place and escalating where required
• Coordinate engineering, procurement, production and subcontractor activities on site
• Manage scope, change control and variations, working with the commercial team and the client
• Lead and support the project team, setting clear priorities and holding the team to account
• Be the main point of contact for the client and other stakeholders, including regular progress meetings and reports
• Promote high standards of health, safety and environmental performance on the project
• Oversee quality management and make sure work is completed to the required standards and specifications
• Monitor cost control, forecasting and cash flow, and support invoicing and contract administration
• Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement across the project

Requirements

Essential

• Substantial experience as a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager on large, complex projects
• Experience delivering projects in a shipyard, maritime, offshore or comparable heavy engineering environment
• Proven ability to manage schedule, budget, risk and scope on a multi-discipline project
• Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple teams on site
• Sound commercial awareness and experience of contract and change management
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills
• Commitment to health, safety and quality standards
• Fluent English, written and spoken

Desirable

• A recognised project management qualification, such as PMP, PRINCE2 or an equivalent
• A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, naval architecture or a related discipline
• Experience of projects in Denmark or the wider Nordic region
• Working knowledge of Danish
