Epico Tech is seeking a Data Engineer in Copenhagen, Denmark, to lead the migration of Oracle databases to PostgreSQL. The role involves transforming database structures and developing automated workflows to ensure seamless transitions.

The ideal candidate should have proven experience in database migrations and strong skills in Power BI for reporting, alongside expertise in various programming languages like Python and C#. This is a 6-month position starting on July 14, 2026.

Job description

Epico is looking for a Data Engineer with experience in Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations

You’ll be part of Application Customization and Operations, where you, together with your colleagues, will drive data platform modernisation by migrating Oracle databases to PostgreSQL and converting Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) pipelines to Azure Data Factory. You’ll also build and optimise Power BI datasets and reports to enable trusted, self‑service insights for the business. Working across operational and technical domains, the team delivers scalable, secure, and maintainable data solutions that support Ørsted’s modernisation journey.

You’ll play an important role in

• Migrate Oracle to PostgreSQL databases by refactoring and transforming core database structures, procedural logic, and data connections into scalable, high‑performing PostgreSQL implementations.
• Translate & convert core database logic by refactoring complex Oracle database components (packages, stored procedures, functions, triggers) into clean and efficient PostgreSQL structures.
• Migrate Oracle Data Integration (ODI) workflows to Azure Data Factory (ADF), ensuring seamless and efficient data transformation and pipeline orchestration. Added value if the candidate has experience with Apache Airflow for workflow automation and scheduling.
• Migration tooling proficiency: Hands‑on experience with specialized schema and data movement utilities such as ora2pg, or other modern data pipeline frameworks designed for large‑scale migrations (Terabyte).
• Develop automated migration workflows using script automation (Python, C#, etc.) to streamline schema conversions, data validations, and other repetitive tasks within database transformation.
• Optimize PostgreSQL database performance by analysing execution plans, applying advanced indexing techniques, and tuning configuration parameters for post‑migration performance.
• Collaborate across teams to minimise downtime during migrations and provide hands‑on support for testing, cutover, scaling, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

• Proven experience in Oracle‑to‑PostgreSQL migrations, including expertise in refactoring database structures, packages, stored procedures, triggers, and data connection logic.
• Expertise in Power BI reporting tool, with proven ability to build interactive reports and dashboards using advanced Power BI functionalities.
• Advanced skills in Oracle PL/SQL and PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL, featuring proficiency in handling advanced procedural logic, cursors, triggers, and exception‑handling patterns.
• Proficiency in ODI and ADF: Experience migrating ODI workflows to ADF pipelines, including parameterisation, scheduling, integration runtime, monitoring, and error handling. Added value: Apache Airflow.
• Post‑migration data testing and validation: Ability to verify that migrated data is complete and consistent.
• Cloud: Familiarity with Azure cloud‑based PostgreSQL deployments and security best practices.

Additionally, it would be great if you have

• Experience designing and implementing zero‑downtime migration strategies and replication mechanisms.
• Terabyte‑Scale migration experience: Proven experience handling large‑scale database migrations involving terabytes (TB) of volume data, ensuring minimal application downtime and zero data loss.
• Advanced performance tuning: Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, including vacuuming configurations, partition management for large datasets, and memory tuning.
