Job description

Do you want to build reliable and scalable data pipelines that power data-driven decision-making across a global organization? Do you thrive in a modern, cloud-first engineering environment where collaboration, automation, and innovation are key? Then this could be the role for you.

About the role and team

As a Data Engineer, you will become part of Unit IT, working in a consultancy-driven setup that delivers high-value services across the USTC Group.

Initially, you will join a dedicated team focused on building a Unified Data Platform for Bunker Holding Group. Here, you will play a key role in establishing scalable, secure, and reliable ingestion capabilities that enable the organization to move data efficiently from source systems into a strong and future-proof platform foundation.

You will collaborate closely with integration engineers, platform engineers, architects, and stakeholders across the organization, contributing to a shared goal of building a modern and reusable data foundation that supports both current and future business needs.

Your responsibilities

You will take an active role in designing, building, and operating ingestion capabilities across the Unified Data Platform.

In this role, you will work hands‑on with data engineering, ensuring that data can be ingested, transformed, and made available in a secure, scalable, and reliable way. You will collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and stakeholders to establish strong ingestion patterns and support a robust platform foundation.

Examples of your tasks include:
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining data ingestion pipelines from source systems into the bronze layer of the Unified Data Platform
  • Building and supporting both batch and streaming ingestion patterns across structured and semi‑structured data sources
  • Integrating with APIs, databases, file‑based systems, and event‑driven platforms such as Azure Service Bus and Kafka
  • Implementing scalable ingestion and transformation logic using technologies such as Databricks and Microsoft Fabric
  • Collaborating with integration engineers, platform engineers, and architects to establish reusable ingestion frameworks and engineering standards
  • Developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to support automated and consistent deployments
  • Implementing CI/CD pipelines and automation practices to improve deployment quality and operational efficiency
  • Ensuring data quality, reliability, observability, and monitoring across ingestion pipelines
  • Supporting governance, metadata, lineage, and security requirements in collaboration with architecture and security teams
  • Helping enable scalable and governed self‑service onboarding of new data sources
  • Participating in troubleshooting, operational support, and root cause analysis related to ingestion pipelines and platform services
  • Exploring modern AI‑supported development and ingestion tooling, including agent‑based and MCP‑enabled patterns where relevant

In practice, this is a role where you combine modern data engineering, platform thinking, and automation to help establish a scalable and future‑proof data foundation for the organization.

Your qualifications

We expect that you are a technically strong and collaborative engineer who enjoys solving complex data ingestion and integration challenges.

You likely bring experience within:

  • Modern data engineering and data ingestion practices
  • Building batch and streaming data pipelines
  • Databricks and/or Microsoft Fabric
  • Integrating data from APIs, databases, messaging systems, and file‑based sources
  • Event‑driven and messaging technologies such as Azure Service Bus and/or Kafka
  • Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform
  • Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
  • Data quality, monitoring, observability, and operational support practices
  • Cloud‑native data platforms and distributed data systems
  • Good collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work across engineering and business teams
  • A structured and quality‑focused mindset with strong ownership of deliveries

You work in a structured and quality‑focused way, take ownership of your deliveries, and collaborate effectively across engineering and business stakeholders.

It is an advantage if you also have:
  • Experience with medallion architecture and bronze/silver/gold data layering concepts
  • Experience working with hybrid data platforms
  • Familiarity with DataOps, DevOps, or platform engineering practices
  • Experience with MCP or AI‑assisted development and automation tooling
  • Experience working in enterprise‑scale data platform environments
What you can expect
  • A central role in building and evolving a modern enterprise‑grade Unified Data Platform
  • High degree of ownership and influence on ingestion standards, engineering practices, and platform capabilities
  • Close collaboration with architects, engineers, and business stakeholders across the organization
  • A modern engineering environment focused on automation, scalability, and cloud‑native technologies
  • Opportunities to work with emerging technologies within data, AI, and platform engineering
  • A collaborative setup where internal and external colleagues work together as one integrated team
