Job summary

VELUX is seeking a Senior Data & AI Platform Engineer to design, build and operate the core Data & AI platform landscape. You will collaborate with Data Engineers, AI Solutions Partners and Data Scientists to enable teams to develop data products and AI solutions securely and at scale.

You will own Snowflake and dbt platforms, drive reliability, security and cost efficiency, and promote best practices, CI/CD and data contracts.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience designing, building and operating production‑grade data platforms.
• Deep expertise in Snowflake and dbt.
• Strong Python, SQL skills; IaC and CI/CD experience.
• Experience with modern AI and LLM infrastructure (model gateways, retrieval systems, agent frameworks).
• Understanding of data mesh, semantic modelling and data contracts.

Responsibilities

• Build, operate and evolve the Data & AI platform landscape (Snowflake/dbt) enabling teams to develop data products and AI apps.
• Design core platform capabilities, governance, observability, security, access management and developer experience.
• Define platform architecture and engineering standards across the Data & AI domain.
• Drive reliability, scalability and cost optimisation across Data/AI workloads (FinOps and governance).
• Coach and mentor Data Engineers and partners on reusable building blocks and patterns.

Meet your future team

You will join the Data & AI Platforms team, responsible for the shared foundation that supports data, analytics and AI use cases across the organisation. The team owns and develops the core Data & AI platform landscape, including our Snowflake-based data platform, dbt, GenAI Hub, AI Gateway, Cortex Agents and emerging agentic AI capabilities. We continuously evaluate new technologies, tools and ways of working to provide secure, scalable and developer-friendly platforms that empower teams across the business.

As a Senior Data & AI Platform Engineer, you will play a central role in designing, building and operating these platforms. You will collaborate closely with Data Engineers, AI Solutions Partners, Data Scientists and other technology specialists, helping them build and deploy data products and AI solutions efficiently and securely.

What we offer

More specifically your tasks will be to:

• Build, operate and continuously evolve our Snowflake and dbt-based Data Platform, enabling teams to develop, deploy and operate data products and AI applications independently.
• Design and develop core Data & AI platform capabilities, including Cortex Agents, AI governance, observability, security, access management and developer experience.
• Define platform architecture, engineering standards and best practices across the Data & AI landscape.
• Drive reliability, scalability and cost optimisation across Data and AI workloads, including FinOps initiatives and platform governance.
• Coach and support Data Engineers and AI Solutions Partners by promoting reusable building blocks, platform patterns and engineering best practices.

What you will bring

Moreover, we expect that you:

• Have 5+ years of experience designing, building and operating production‑grade data platforms.
• Bring deep expertise in Snowflake and dbt.
• Have strong Python skills and experience working with SQL, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices.
• Have experience with modern AI and LLM infrastructure, such as model gateways, retrieval systems and agent frameworks.
• Understand data mesh principles, semantic modelling and data contracts.
• Have experience supporting large numbers of users while balancing reliability, security and cost efficiency.
• Enjoy collaborating with and mentoring other engineers and technical stakeholders.
• Have a structured and pragmatic approach to solving complex technical challenges.
