Job summary

Hitachi Energy Ltd. is seeking a Commissioning Engineer in Denmark (Middelfart or Ballerup/Copenhagen) to lead testing and commissioning of HV/MV substations. The role spans planning, FAT, site execution, and coordination of resources for utilities, data centers, and industrial projects.

You'll work within the Grid Integration business - Nordic OU, requiring English fluency and basic Danish. Prior relay protection and switchgear experience is essential, with travel between sites expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar.
• Experience at MV/HV substations testing and commissioning.
• Experience configuring/testing relay protection (Hitachi or other vendors).
• Competence in testing/commissioning of switchgear and related substation components.
• Experience with data-center substations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing and commissioning of HV/MV substations, including protection systems and switchgear.
• Plan and document commissioning activities, FAT documentation, ITPs/ITRs, and Method Statements.
• Organize FAT testing of C&P equipment in the test lab.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety and HSE requirements.
• Coordinate on-site commissioning activities and manage internal/external resources.
• Support tendering with commissioning plans and time/cost estimates.
• Act as commissioning leader/manager on projects when appointed.

The opportunity

Hitachi Energy is now looking for a Commissioning Engineer with relay testing experience in Middelfart or Ballerup/Copenhagen, Denmark. You will be part of a dedicated and skilled commissioning team within our Grid Integration business - Nordic OU (Finland, Sweden and Denmark). As a commissioning engineer, you are accountable for pre-commissioning and commissioning activities in our projects (e.g. HV substations for utilities, industry, data centers, etc.). Besides site commissioning activities, role could involve planning and management of external commissioning resources, tendering support for commissioning activities, FAT support, etc.

How you'll make an impact

Perform the testing and commissioning of HV & MV Substations, including control & protection systems, HV/MV switchgears, power and aux transformers, AC & DC auxiliary systems, etc.

Take part in pre-commissioning meeting, commissioning planning activities and documentation preparation (e.g. FAT documentation, Site ITPs & ITRs, Method Statements, Control programs, etc.).

Organize and perform FAT of C&P equipment in our test lab.

Follow the instructions of electrical safety and other HSE instructions in accordance with Hitachi/customer requirements.

Coordinate and plan on-site commissioning activities, including internal and external resources management

Support tendering by providing commissioning plan and time/cost estimation.

Act as commissioning leader/manager in particular projects, if appointed.

Your background

A bachelor’s degree or above in electrical engineering or similar.

Some working experience at substation sites, with testing and commissioning of MV & HV substations.

Experience in settings/configuring and testing of the relay protection (e.g. Hitachi, or other vendors IEDs).

Competence in testing & commissioning of switchgears and other key components/apparatus in substations.

Overall experience in substation projects is a plus.

Experience in commissioning of data centers substations is a strong plus (e.g. Microsoft, Google, Apple).

You are fluent in English written and spoken alike. At least basic knowledge of Danish language is required.
