Job summary

Ramboll is seeking a Substation Primary Engineer to shape high-voltage infrastructure across project stages from concept to commissioning. You will lead primary design for AIS and GIS substations up to 400 kV, specify equipment, and ensure technical excellence while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams in a dynamic energy environment.

Based in Denmark with offices in Copenhagen or Aarhus, you will grow professionally, mentor colleagues, and engage with clients to deliver safe, robust HV

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.
• Significant experience in primary design of transmission or distribution substations.
• Knowledge of protection and control design helps understanding full HV substation scope.
• Experience from consulting, utilities, OEMs, or EPC contractors is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead and review the primary design of AIS and GIS substations up to 400 kV.
• Develop substation layouts, bay arrangements, busbar systems, earthing and lightning protection solutions.
• Select and specify high-voltage equipment and prepare technical specifications, tender documents, and data sheets.
• Perform and verify key design calculations, including current capacity, short-circuit forces, voltages.
• Coordinate interfaces with protection, control, cables, civil, structural, and other disciplines.
• Support procurement, supplier follow-up, design reviews, FAT/SAT and commissioning activities.
• Collaborate with clients and project managers on technical solutions, scope, risks, estimates, and change management.
• Provide technical guidance, quality assurance, and mentoring to strengthen primary engineering capabilities.
