Job summary

DTU Wind and Energy Systems invites applications for a PhD position focused on modelling converter-based units in power systems, including wind turbines, PV systems and storage. The PhD is conducted in a university setting with an experimental facility and industrial collaboration at Risø HPP, enabling validation of models in real-world conditions.

You will work with a team of researchers and engineers, complete courses, and contribute to publications while advancing grid-connection modelling

Qualifications

  • MSc level in power systems engineering or similar.
  • Understanding of power converter technology and control.
  • Experience with EMT simulations of converter-based units (PSCAD).
  • Experience with RMS simulations of converter-based units (PowerFactory).
  • Experience with frequency domain analysis including Fourier transformation.
  • Awareness of IEC 61400-21 and IEC 61400-27 modelling standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop RMS and EMT time series simulation models for Risø HPP in PowerFactory and PSCAD.
  • Plan tests in Risø HPP to provide real test results for model validation.
  • Develop, analyse and validate frequency domain models for Risø HPP.
  • Apply validation methods based on tests in real environments.
  • Disseminate research in conference and journal papers.
  • Co-supervise BEng, BSc and MSc students final projects.
  • Teaching assistance in relevant courses.
