Job summary

DTU Wind and Energy Systems in Roskilde, Denmark invites applications for a PhD position focusing on fracture mechanics of composite materials. The project combines finite element modelling and experimental work to study crack growth and cohesive zone modelling, with emphasis on stable to unstable progression.

The successful candidate will develop new cohesive zone models, design medium-size test specimens, and integrate modelling with experiments using techniques such as AE, SEM and X-ray

Qualifications

  • Theoretical background in solid mechanics.
  • Proficiency in FEM modelling.
  • Theoretical background in composite materials based on long fibres.

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of mixed mode traction-separation laws into cohesive zone models in finite element software (e.g., ABAQUS).
  • Fracture mechanics testing of medium-size specimens in the laboratory.
  • Compare predictions from the cohesive zone model with experimental data.
  • Microscale investigation of damage using AE, SEM, and X-ray tomography.
  • Co-supervise BSc and MSc projects in the area.
