Job summary

DTU Wind and Energy Systems at the Risø Campus, Roskilde, invites applications for a PhD position focused on fracture mechanics of composites and cohesive zone modelling. The project combines finite element simulations with experimental validation to study crack growth in long-fibre reinforced materials.

The successful candidate will have a two-year master's degree or equivalent and a strong background in solid mechanics, FEM, and composites, with experience in programming and materials testing

Qualifications

  • Theoretical background in solid mechanics
  • Proficiency in FEM modelling
  • Theoretical background in composite materials based on long fibres

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of mixed mode traction-separation laws into cohesive zone models in finite element software (ABAQUS)
  • Fracture mechanics testing of medium-size specimens in the laboratory
  • Compare prediction from the cohesive zone model with experimental data from crack growth in medium-size specimens
  • Microscale investigation of damage using AE, SEM and X-ray tomography
  • Co-supervise BSc and MSc student projects in the area
