Job summary

GN Group is seeking a Lead Research Scientist to shape the scientific approach to testing, verification and performance evaluation across the full technology maturity journey, from early research concepts to final product releases.

You will advance how we assess and improve hearing-aid performance by establishing evaluation methods connecting technical performance with real-world listening outcomes for people with hearing loss, working with a global team across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• PhD in hearing science or related discipline.
• Post-PhD experience in verification, validation or performance-evaluation methods for complex audio/technologies.
• Experience designing objective measurements, simulations and subjective studies with humans.
• Strong publication record and ability to establish scientific credibility through research and collaboration.
• Ability to guide cross-functional work; AI-enabled data analysis and university collaboration is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Shape the scientific development of verification, validation and performance-evaluation strategies for hearing-aid technologies, from exploratory research through product release
• Establish rigorous evaluation frameworks, reference methods and benchmarks across maturity stages and products
• Define, develop and validate methods across simulations, electroacoustic and acoustic verification, objective performance evaluation and subjective studies
• Connect laboratory measurements, simulated environments and real-life performance in everyday listening situations
• Introduce metrics, test scenarios and predictive models for earlier assessment of user-relevant product performance
• Guide static and dynamic testing to ensure evaluation in controlled and realistic acoustic environments
• Act as the scientific bridge across research, development, audiology, product and external partners

In the role of Lead Research Scientist, you will advance how we assess, predict and improve hearing-aid performance by establishing evaluation methods that connect technical performance with real-world listening outcomes for people with hearing loss.

You will join a global research team of 28 colleagues across Ballerup, Eindhoven, Glenview and Shakopee.

We work at the intersection of hearing science, acoustics, psychoacoustics, signal processing, human-computer interaction and machine learning to develop technologies for future hearing aids that address real-life communication challenges for people with hearing loss.

Your contribution is appreciated, and you will:

• Shape the scientific development of verification, validation and performance-evaluation strategies for hearing-aid technologies, from exploratory research through product release
• Establish rigorous evaluation frameworks, reference methods and benchmarks that enable meaningful comparison across maturity stages, internal developments and external products
• Define, develop and validate methods across simulations, electroacoustic and acoustic verification, objective performance evaluation and subjective studies with people with hearing loss
• Connect laboratory measurements, simulated sound environments and real-life hearing-aid performance in complex and changing everyday listening situations
• Introduce metrics, test scenarios and predictive models that enable earlier assessment of user-relevant product performance
• Guide the use of static and dynamic testing approaches, ensuring technologies are evaluated in controlled conditions and realistic acoustic environments
• Act as the scientific and technical bridge across research, development, audiology, product and external partners, translating complex evidence into clear technology and product recommendations

To perform well in the role, we imagine that you:

• Hold a PhD in hearing science, audiology, acoustics, audio signal processing, psychoacoustics, electrical engineering, psychology, measurement science or a related discipline
• Bring substantial post-PhD research experience developing and applying verification, validation or performance-evaluation methods for complex audio, acoustic, medical, wearable or consumer technologies
• Have demonstrated expertise in designing, conducting and critically interpreting objective measurements, simulations and subjective studies with human participants
• Bring a solid publication record and can establish scientific credibility internally and externally through rigorous research, technical leadership and collaboration
• Can guide complex cross-functional work, shape technical direction and challenge established evaluation practices using sound scientific judgement and pragmatic decision-making; experience with hearing-aid technology, electroacoustic measurement systems, acoustic laboratories, virtual or simulated sound environments, clinical or user studies, AI-enabled data analysis and international university collaboration is beneficial
