Job summary

Lunar Denmark is seeking a Head of Accounting to lead the formal accounting function for a Nordic licensed bank. Based in Copenhagen, you will own the ledger, drive month-end close, and ensure IFRS compliance across the group.

You will build a strong control environment, push automation, and grow the accounting team while reducing consultant dependency. The role reports to the Director of Finance Operations and supports the bank's scalable growth.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with experience owning the ledger and statutory accounts.
• Strong IFRS knowledge, including IFRS 16, and ability to defend judgments.
• Experience building a control environment from a starting point needing work.
• Experience leading an accounting team through system changes and close accelerations.
• Direct external-audit experience as the primary finance contact.

Responsibilities

• Own the general ledger, month-end close, statutory accounts and IFRS compliance for a licensed Nordic bank
• Lead balance sheet reconciliation programme — product by product, starting with deposits and international payments
• Build the control environment: segregation of duties, bank payment dual approval, supplier onboarding controls, and SOPs with named owners for every key process
• Drive automation and system quality — take Adra fully live, cut manual journal entries, and bring the ledger’s needs into our Business Central migration
• Lead and grow the accounting team, taking core roles off consultant dependency and onto permanent capability

As our new Head of Accounting, you’ll join the Finance team based in Copenhagen, reporting to the Director of Finance Operations, working to make Lunar’s numbers accurate, on time and audit-clean as the bank scales.

What will you do?

• Own the general ledger, month-end close, statutory accounts and IFRS compliance for a licensed Nordic bank
• Lead the balance sheet reconciliation programme — product by product, starting with deposits and international payments

What are we looking for in you?

• Qualified accountant with experience owning the ledger and statutory accounts in a bank or another regulated financial institution
• Strong IFRS knowledge, including IFRS 16, and confidence making and defending recognition judgements
• Experience building a control environment from a starting point that genuinely needed work
• Experience leading an accounting team through a systems change, a close acceleration, or both
• Direct experience of external audit as the primary finance contact
