Job summary

The Marine Bioacoustics lab at Aarhus University seeks a bioacoustician to lead the collection and high‑end analysis of calibrated acoustic data from monitoring programs and animal experiments. The successful candidate will plan fieldwork in Denmark and internationally, calibrate equipment, develop databases, and train students in acoustic analyses while contributing to courses and research outputs.

• Master's degree in bioacoustics, engineering or physics with strong quantitative skills.
• PhD degree is advantageous for the role.
• Documented experience programming in Matlab or Python.
• At-sea field experience and boat handling skills are an advantage.
• Strong English skills, both spoken and written, in a diverse environment.
• Interest in building a leading bioacoustics lab with rigorous standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and execute field work in Denmark and abroad using hydrophone and microphone arrays.
• Manage and calibrate recording equipment and develop scientific instrumentation.
• Set up and curate databases and perform discrete time series analyses on large acoustic data.
• Support and train students and postdocs in acoustic analyses and co-teach courses.
• Lead report writing to funders and governments and contribute to papers and grant applications.
