Job description

Do you want to be a valued part of the critical infrastructure that serves communities across Europe and beyond? Are you looking for a position in which you can set direction and help to shape our company? If so, then you could be the newest member of our team, Fleet Energy Efficiency Projects, as Superintendent, based at our Copenhagen office.

About The Role

Be part of the movement - and play your part.

As Superintendent, you will drive energy efficiency projects and execute shore power projects throughout the DFDS fleet of ~60 vessels. You will perform efficient and effective project management, continuous improvements, and standardisation across the fleet to reduce excess energy use and support the journey towards 2030 and further to net-zero in 2050.

This role is based full-time at our Copenhagen office. Being on-site here matters: you'll be working closely day-to-day with the wider Fleet Energy Efficiency Projects team and cross-functional partners across the organisation, and that close collaboration is a core part of how the role delivers results. Alongside this, the position involves a high level of interaction with our seafarers and many other partners in the shipping business, including Class and Flag, so you should expect regular travel (see below). We're looking for a proactive and passionate Superintendent who is thorough, efficient, and able to execute both at the desk and in the field, someone who enjoys travel, communicates well, and is equally comfortable working as part of a team and independently on their own tasks.

In Addition, Your Key Responsibilities Will Include
  • Identify and prioritise energy efficiency ideas.
  • Perform efficient and effective project management from idea to installation, commissioning, and handover to the vessel.
  • Carry out on-site technical supervision during project installation through planning and timely execution during scheduled dockings or in service.
  • Documentation and archiving of relevant project data.
  • Financial planning and execution, including close follow-up on projects.
  • Continue to analyse and develop operational and technical methods and find efficient alternatives.
  • Evaluate existing projects and analyse if any of these would be feasible across the remaining fleet.
  • Analyse capital expenditures and project designs to find and implement efficient projects.
Fleet Energy Efficiency Projects

The department is a relatively new department, part of Fleet Resilience and Technology (the former Technical Organisation). Fleet Energy Efficiency Projects is responsible for specific energy-saving projects that support the decarbonisation journey towards 2030 and further to 2050.

About You

We believe the strongest teams are built on diversity and inclusivity.

Contrasting opinions, varied skills, and strong characters bring out the best in all of us.

The ideal candidate will excel in project management and possess extensive technical knowledge in the marine segment. Most importantly, you should have strong social and behavioural skills to effectively interact with diverse cultures and a high motivation for driving continuous improvements by maintaining a clear focus on setting and achieving targets.

We Expect The Following
  • Marine Engineer, Dual Officer, or Naval Architect.
  • Technical experience, knowledge, and high interest in Energy Efficiency, fuel-saving technologies, Alternative fuels, Ship performance monitoring, and Decarbonization.
  • Strong analytic mind with both a theoretical and practical approach.
  • Willingness to work in a complex organisational setup, across countries and cultures.
  • Ability to engage and lead in a cross-functional team of experts across various projects.
  • Not scared of engaging and taking difficult decisions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • English language proficiency, both written and spoken, at negotiation level.
  • Able to be based in Copenhagen and work on-site, with travel of 60–90 days yearly, which can include longer periods during dockings, repairs, or in-service work.
