Job description

Opportunity

The Fleet Superintendent role reports to the Fleet Director and oversees the operation and maintenance of vessels, ensuring safe, qualitative, and cost‑effective outcomes. The incumbent will develop leadership skills while directly managing Masters and Chief Engineers assigned to the vessels, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement within Maersk’s dynamic international environment. The position is based at the Copenhagen office of Maersk Fleet Management and Technology, with some international business travel required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managerial oversight of Masters and Chief Engineers on assigned vessels.
  • Prioritise safety, build effective teams, and ensure highly skilled personnel in all onboard positions.
  • Promote sea‑to‑shore collaboration and engage direct reports, officers, and crews.
  • Handle all operational matters related to assigned vessels.
  • Plan and execute planned and unplanned maintenance, repairs, and modifications to hull and machinery within approved budgets.
  • Coordinate inspections and dry‑docking schedules.
  • Ensure vessel certifications and surveys for class, flag, and international requirements are current.
  • Monitor vessel performance and initiate corrective actions as necessary.
  • Oversee financial budgets for maintenance, repairs, stores, and drydockings.
  • Suggest innovations, cost savings, and improvements within the area of responsibility.
  • Monitor service quality from shipyards, workshops, and suppliers for compliance with regulatory and customer standards.
  • Conduct technical inspections and provide operational feedback to enhance Maersk’s future new‑building pipeline.
  • Support the company’s decarbonisation agenda.
  • Produce daily, weekly, and monthly reports to senior management.
