Job description

The position
Job overall purpose
  • The Engineering Excellence Manager, reporting to the Head of Engineering, centralises all Engineering support functions to ensure excellence is intrinsically built into how Engineering operates across a global and evolving, multi-site Engineering environment, from mission and satellite system design to satellite operations
  • The role establishes and runs the Engineering operating model, ensuring Engineering functions as a well-run, business‑centric system that converts engineering effort into delivered mission and satellite capability in a predictable, efficient, and scalable manner
  • This is a highly operational role, combining broad system responsibility with strong execution, reporting, and follow‑up
Key areas of responsibility & tasks
Engineering Operating Model
  • Centralise and run Engineering support functions within Satellite Systems Engineering, aligned with the Satellite Systems Business Unit, across multiple Engineering sites
  • Ensure Engineering operates as a well‑run, predictable, and business‑centric system, optimising internal flow and interfaces to PMO, AIV (manufacturing, integration and verification), procurement, Product production, and other Business Units
  • Apply system‑level and value‑stream thinking to consistently convert technical intent into delivered mission and satellite capability
Methods
  • Define and deploy Engineering methods and standard ways of working.
  • Enable effective use of AI in both engineering design (what we build) and engineering methods, processes and operations (how we work)
  • Drive adoption of DFMAT and modularity principles with a strong focus on practical application and measurable impact
Configuration Management & Interfaces
  • Establish and own Engineering Configuration Management as a technical discipline, including baselines, interfaces, change control, and traceability, aligned with projects, PMO governance and company‑wide Configuration Management plan
  • Own and maintain the structure and lifecycle of technical orders towards procurement and Product production for internal and third‑party products, ensuring technical clarity, readiness and alignment with PMO and delivery needs
  • Ensure clear and efficient technical handovers to AIV in alignment with AIV requirements, integration needs and execution constraints
  • Support and streamline inter‑Business Unit interfaces including technical agreements, in alignment with PMO
Compliance
  • Ensure Engineering compliance with space and quality regulations, protocols, standards and relevant certifications (e.g. ISO, NIS2), embedding compliance into Engineering processes, tools, and daily practices in coordination with company‑wide quality and assurance functions
  • Own and maintain Engineering assets and tools, including laboratories, test infrastructure, engineering environments, shared engineering toolchains and licences
Leadership Support & Execution
  • Act as custodian of the Satellite Systems Business Unit roadmap artefact, ensuring clear structure, visualisation, consistency and alignment with inputs from the Head of Engineering and technical leaders
  • Act as Chief of Staff to the Head of Engineering, providing direct support across synthesis, preparation, coordination and sustained follow‑up of complex topics and leadership decisions, ensuring Engineering operates coherently as a system
  • Establish dashboards, reporting and operational cadence, and prepare clear, executive‑level material for internal and external forums
  • Drive execution by ensuring initiatives are implemented, adopted, measured and continuously improved
  • Build, lead and develop a high‑performing Engineering Excellence team, defining roles, priorities and ways of working and scaling the function as the company and Engineering grows
Criteria of Success
  • High quality and on‑time deliveries
  • Successful projects
  • High level of engagement in the team
  • Good relationships with stakeholders
  • Strategic and technical leadership
Qualifications
Critical experience
  • Substantial experience in engineering enablement, operational excellence or equivalent technical operations roles in high‑technology environments
  • Demonstrated ability to design and optimise end‑to‑end engineering value streams, balancing technical excellence with business outcomes
  • Experience operating at system and leadership level in complex organisations, exercising judgement, prioritisation and trade‑off decisions under ambiguity
Skills
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent qualificationSound business acumen, translating strategic intent into operational systems and day‑to‑day execution
  • Highly operational mindset, with a track record of handling broad responsibility while driving concrete outcomes, follow‑up and measurable results
  • Strong capability in reporting, including the definition and use of dashboards, metrics and indicators to steer operations and decision‑making
  • Leadership presence and interpersonal effectiveness, with the capacity to influence without direct authority and operate credibly across functions
  • Outstanding alignment with GomSpace values: Helpfulness, Open and frequent communication, True leadership and Acting for customer value
  • Strong commercial instinct: understands how to win without compromising delivery
