Jeppesen ForeFlight is expanding its Denmark-based engineering team. We are seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable services and APIs that power flight planning and navigation for pilots and operators worldwide.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional backend experience in Java, Python, Go, or C#.
• Strong API design skills (REST/GraphQL) and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and query optimization.
• Cloud experience (AWS or GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and code reviews.
• Excellent communication in English, written and spoken.
• Based in Denmark or willing to work at our Denmark location with EU work authorization.

About The Role

We're looking for a Backend Engineer to join our team in Denmark. You'll design, build, and maintain the services and APIs that process aeronautical data and power flight planning for pilots, dispatchers, and operators worldwide. You'll work closely with front-end engineers, product managers, and data specialists to build systems that are fast, accurate, and reliable at scale.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable backend services and APIs that power our flight planning and navigation products.
• Work with large volumes of aeronautical and geospatial data, ensuring it is processed accurately and efficiently.
• Collaborate with front-end engineers to design clean, well-documented APIs that meet product and performance needs.
• Partner with product managers and other engineers to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and participate in code reviews to maintain engineering standards.
• Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, including data modeling, service design, and infrastructure choices.
• Ensure systems meet security, data integrity, and compliance requirements appropriate for safety-critical aviation software.

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of professional experience building backend services in a language such as Java, Python, Go, or C#.
• Strong understanding of API design (REST and/or GraphQL) and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or GCP) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience writing automated tests and working within CI/CD pipelines.
• Solid understanding of software design principles, data structures, and algorithms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye toward reliability and correctness.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Based in Denmark or willing to work from our Denmark location, with authorization to work in the EU.

Nice to Have

• Experience working with geospatial or aeronautical data, or other safety-critical, data-intensive domains.
• Experience with event-driven or streaming architectures (e.g., Kafka, SQS).
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Exposure to performance tuning and large-scale system optimization.
• Interest in aviation or flight operations.
