Job summary

Volvo Cars seeks an Applied AI Lead Engineer to shape AI adoption within VC.OS.HI, driving practical AI solutions across the software lifecycle. You will work at the intersection of AI and automotive software, translating advanced AI technologies into tangible engineering value.

You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, design scalable AI architectures, and mentor engineers to build production-grade AI capabilities that improve developer productivity and safety across Volvo Cars' AI initiatives.

Qualifications

Proven experience delivering AI-enabled products or platforms used by real users.
Experience with LLM-based applications including RAG and tool-integrated systems.
Hands-on experience with self-hosted models, model serving, and inference optimization.
Understanding of AI safety, context drift, and guardrails in production environments.
Experience building production-grade AI systems with scalability, observability, and fault tolerance.
Knowledge of advanced retrieval architectures including vector databases and knowledge graphs.

Responsibilities

Lead applied AI solutions from concept through deployment and ongoing improvement.
Design solutions using LLMs, RAG, Graph-RAG, knowledge graphs, and agentic AI workflows.
Build AI assistants to help engineers access knowledge across requirements, architecture, source code, CI/CD, testing, and data.
Improve development workflows with AI-driven backlog and requirements analysis, code navigation, and documentation.
Define scalable AI architectures covering data ingestion, indexing, retrieval, orchestration, evaluation, observability, and secure deployment.
Mentor engineers and help grow sustainable AI engineering capabilities within VC.OS.HI.
