Zusammenfassung

Isar Aerospace SE is seeking a senior Turbomachinery Engineer to lead end-to-end turbine development for pump-fed liquid rocket engines. You will drive conceptual sizing, architecture trades, and detailed design with the CFD and CFD/analysis teams.

You will own the technical development roadmap, collaborate across structures, test, and manufacturing, and contribute to qualification campaigns while travelling for test operations as needed.

Qualifikationen

  • MSc in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or a comparable discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Several years in liquid rocket engine development with responsibility for turbine development and testing.
  • Hands-on design, analysis, development or testing of pump fed liquid propellant rocket engines.
  • Excellent understanding of turbine aerodynamics, turbopump power balance and architecture, thermomechanical design and material selection.
  • Working knowledge of seals, bearings and centrifugal pump operation across turbopump applications.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB or comparable programming language, plus CAD and CFD software (Siemens NX, StarCCM+).
  • Strong technical ownership and systems thinking; ability to make sound engineering decisions with incomplete information.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for test and launch operations.

Aufgaben

  • Lead end-to-end development of turbines for pump-fed liquid propellant rocket engines.
  • Develop reduced order design models for turbomachinery components for engine cycle analysis.
  • Oversee conceptual design and architecture trade-offs for turbomachinery systems.
  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D design workflows and perform aerodynamic analyses with CFD team.
  • Collaborate with Engine Structures on material selection for high-temperature, high-pressure rotors/stators.

Jobbeschreibung

As a key member of the Turbomachinery team you will lead the end to end development of turbines for pump fed liquid propellant rocket engines. You will take a turbine from conceptual sizing and architecture trades through detailed aerodynamic and thermomechanical design, into manufacturing, test and qualification, and you will own the technical decisions along the way.

Your Role in Our Space Mission:

  • Develop, maintain and improve reduced order design models for turbomachinery components, particularly turbines, for use in engine cycle analysis.
  • Lead the conceptual design and architecture trade-offs for turbomachinery systems, including shaft arrangements and basic seal and bearing selection.
  • Develop and maintain detailed three dimensional design workflows for turbine components, and perform aerodynamic analyses together with the CFD team.
  • Work with the Engine Structures team on material selection for turbine rotors and stators operating at high-temperature and high pressure.
  • Own the technical development roadmap for your hardware, including maturation activities, design reviews, design risk assessments, manufacturing follow up and qualification planning.
  • Plan, support and evaluate component and integrated engine level test campaigns, including instrumentation definition, test predictions and data review, and derive or validate models from the results.
  • Work closely with the Cycle, Turbomachinery, Valves, Feed Systems, Controls, Structures, Thermal, Manufacturing and Test teams to deliver an integrated propulsion system.

Qualification Checklist

  • MSc in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or a comparable technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Several years in liquid rocket engine development, with significant responsibility for turbine development and testing.
  • Hands‑on experience in the design, analysis, development or testing of pump fed liquid propellant rocket engines.
  • Excellent understanding of turbine aerodynamics, turbopump power balance and architecture, thermomechanical design and material selection for rotating hardware.
  • Working knowledge of seals, bearings and centrifugal pump operation across different turbopump applications.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB or a comparable programming language, plus CAD and CFD software, preferably Siemens NX and StarCCM+.
  • Strong technical ownership, systems thinking and the ability to make sound engineering decisions with incomplete information.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for test and launch operations.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with transient cycle modelling: start up, shutdown, throttling and off nominal conditions.
  • Experience taking an engine design from cycle definition and system‑level trades into hardware and test.
  • Experience analysing engine control, operability, stability, or failure cases.
  • Planning and coordinating multidisciplinary engine development or test campaigns.
  • Experience correlating models against hot fire test data.
  • Employee Participation Program: Share in our success through our virtual company share program
  • 30 days of vacation: Enjoy the days off to relax and recharge
  • Company pension plan: Secure your future with our company pension plan, featuring a 20% employer contribution after the probation period
  • Subsidised lunch: Stay energised with delicious, subsidised lunches every day
  • Public transport ticket: Commute with ease using a fully financed Deutschlandticket
  • Rental clothing with laundry service: Enjoy hassle‑free workwear with our convenient rental clothing and laundry service
  • Sport Clubs membership: Stay fit with our sponsored sports club memberships (EGYM Wellpass)
  • Individual learning allowance: Grow your skills with an individual learning budget granted after the probation period
  • Childcare allowance: Receive a childcare allowance for your non‑school‑age children
  • And Much More! Discover additional perks and benefits when you join our team.
