Hogrefe Verlag GmbH & Co. KG seeks a Test Automation Engineer to design and optimize test automation across system, UI, and API layers. You will drive testing strategies, mentor teams, and promote modern technologies to improve software quality. The role can be full-time or part-time.

Candidates should have strong Playwright experience, good knowledge of test architectures, and be comfortable with English; German skills are advantageous. Office in Göttingen with remote options in Germany.

As a highly skilled Test Automation Engineer (m/f/d), you will design and optimize modern test automation solutions for system, UI, and API testing. You will drive test strategies and quality standards, advise development teams, and promote the use of innovative technologies to continuously improve software quality. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis.

What will you be doing?

• You develop and maintain software test automation solutions across different test levels, with a particular focus on system-level testing
• You support colleagues and development teams in implementing and evolving automation approaches in alignment with the test pyramid
• You contribute to the definition, implementation, and continuous improvement of team-specific test automation strategies
• You design, implement, and maintain automated UI and API tests using frameworks like Playwright, preferably using TypeScript or Java
• You further develop test architectures with a strong focus on maintainability, scalability, reliability, and fast execution times
• You work with non-functional testing approaches and integrate them into existing test strategies.
• You contribute to the continuous improvement of test execution plans and align them with the needs of individual teams
• You advise and train colleagues on topics related to software testing and test automation.
• You support the continuous improvement of organization-wide quality practices and contribute to a shift from quality assurance to quality assistance
• You analyze metrics and quality data, create and maintain dashboards as well as monitoring systems to identify improvement opportunities in development and testing processes
• You evaluate the use of AI-based approaches in test automation and support their practical adoption
• You monitor technological and methodological developments in software testing and derive improvement initiatives from them
• You work with existing software systems and legacy code bases and develop solutions for the challenges associated with them

Who are you?

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in software test automation
• Strong knowledge of test automation across different test levels, particularly at the system level
• Experience in designing and evolving test strategies, automation concepts, and test execution plans
• Extensive experience in UI test automation using Playwright; familiarity with Cypress or Selenium is a plus
• Good understanding of test analysis and test design
• Solid knowledge of test architecture principles
• Interest and practical experience in non-functional testing (e.g. performance, load, security)
• Strong understanding of high-quality automated tests regarding maintainability, scalability, reliability, and execution speed.
• Excellent understanding of modern software development processes, including version control (e.g. Git), build processes, and deployment pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps)
• Experience in automated API testing and in working with relevant testing tools
• Interest in current developments in software testing, test automation, and AI-supported quality engineering
• Willingness to share knowledge across the organization and to support teams in an advisory capacity
• Good written and spoken English language skills with similar German language skills being an advantage for the role
