As the leader of our Data Platform team, you’ll play a pivotal role in Scalable Capital’s data journey. Your team is at the heart of our data infrastructure, responsible for improving, extending, and automating our data platforms. In addition to leading and mentoring two talented data experts, you’ll act as a hands‑on staff engineer, directly shaping our technology and best practices.
You and your team will serve as the go‑to experts for data engineering and platform best practices – from data modeling and pipeline design to coding standards and security – empowering other data teams and promoting a truly data‑driven culture across the company.
Lead, mentor, and inspire a small team of senior data engineers.
Own the architecture, development, and operation of our data platforms, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
Automate platform operations and streamline data workflows to increase efficiency and minimize manual intervention.
Act as the first point of contact for other data engineering teams on topics like platform usage, data modeling, pipeline design, and general data engineering best practices.
Collaborate cross‑functionally to set standards and champion data engineering excellence across the organization, including security concepts.
Remain hands‑on: architect, code, review, and deploy critical data infrastructure solutions.
Drive adoption of modern tooling (including GenAI‑assisted coding) while applying critical thinking to recommendations and outputs.
Several years (5+) of hands‑on experience building, improving, and operating data platforms in high‑volume production environments.
Expertise in AWS Cloud, especially their data‑native service offering (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift etc.).
Expert level knowledge of IAM, KMS, networking, and security best practices in AWS.
Skilled using Infrastructure as Code: e.g., Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
Workflow Orchestration: e.g., Apache Airflow, AWS Step Functions, or similar.
Data Modeling & Data Warehousing: dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas; experience with Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery is a plus.
Containerization: Docker; Kubernetes is a plus.
Deep knowledge of Software Engineering best practices—from requirements specification, version control, CI/CD, and testing to deployment and monitoring of data pipelines and services.
Ability to balance the big picture (strategy, scaling) with hands‑on engineering and problem solving.
Strong skills in data modeling, pipeline design, and automation.
Data‑native mindset: you think data‑first and know how to design robust, scalable, and maintainable platforms.
Comfortable leveraging GenAI‑assisted coding while maintaining high standards and thoughtful code reviews.
Proven experience leading, mentoring, and growing small expert teams.
Ability to act as a trusted advisor for other teams and communicate complex technical topics clearly.
