is available at the University of Tübingen .

GHGA is part of thenational program for research data infrastructure (NFDI)and operates Germany’s national node within the federatedEuropean Genome-Phenome Archive (EGA), as well as the data archive for the German NationalModel Project Genome Sequencing. As a central component of Germany’s research infrastructure landscape, GHGA provides secure data and metadata management solutions, enables FAIR data sharing, and supports streamlined data deposition and access processes.

We are seeking aTechnical Data Stewardwith strong expertise in genomics data, including the design and modelling of data‑exchange formats and metadata standards commonly used in biomedical research. In this role, you will contribute to the design, continuous improvement, automation, and execution of our data‑submission workflows. Because you will work closely with data submitters, proficiency in the domain language of biomedical data and experimental methods is essential.

As a growing project, GHGA offers substantial room for shaping its implementation. Your contributions will directly support GHGA’s mission to make omics data in Germany more accessible and advance national and international genome research.

Your responsibilities:
  • Developing and implementing procedures for managing human omics data within the GHGA infrastructure.
  • Designing, refining, and maintaining metadata‑ingress models that enable the accurate capture of data‑generation processes and enhance the discoverability and reusability of research data.
  • Monitoring and evaluating developments across connected international initiatives and contributing to the alignment of GHGA procedures with these efforts.
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, computational biology, biological sciences, computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field; a PhD is an advantage.
  • Expertise in genomics and biomedical data processing, including familiarity with common experimental modalities (e.g., sequencing, proteomics) and domain‑specific data formats (such as FASTQ, BAM/CRAM, VCF).
  • Familiarity with data‑serialization formats such as JSON, YAML, or XML.
  • Proficiency in working with Unix/Linux environments.
  • Programming experience, preferably in Python, at a level suitable for developing reliable and maintainable data‑processing tools.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with biomedical researchers and other data‑submitting partners.

The ideal candidate works independently, creatively, and collaboratively, communicates clearly, and can articulate technical requirements, set priorities, and operate within an interdisciplinary environment.

We offer:
  • An opportunity to shape a key scientific data infrastructure for storing and sharing omics data in Germany.
  • A diverse and engaging role within an international and supportive working environment.
  • A competitive salary according to TV‑L, including comprehensive social benefits.
  • Possibility to work part‑time.
  • A comprehensive training and professional development program.
