The DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation is dedicated to mission-oriented research in selected areas of communications and navigation. Its work ranges from the theoretical foundations to the demonstration of new procedures and systems in a real environment and is embedded in DLR's Space, Aeronautics, Transport, Security and Digitalization programs.

What you can expect:

The Nautical Systems department of the DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation develops and tests new procedures and technologies for shore-based and on-board support in ship navigation, among other things. The Maritime Services working group focuses in particular on alternative terrestrial navigation systems which, as a complement to global satellite navigation systems, enable shipping even under disrupted conditions. In this context, we are developing the R-Mode maritime navigation system and the corresponding reception technology. Our work is guided by the needs of maritime service providers and users.

Your responsibilities:
  • Estimating the transmission position of GNSS jammers using distributed, time-synchronised GNSS receivers.
  • Literature review on existing implementations
  • Defining synchronisation requirements
  • Selecting and simulating suitable approaches
  • Setting up a real-world measurement system and conducting tests
  • Evaluating test results
What you bring:
  • Currently studying aerospace engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or a comparable degree programme
  • Degree in electrical engineering (B.Sc)
  • Experience with the use of SDRs
  • Experience in digital signal processing
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Good command of German and English
