DLR's Institute of Flight Systems invites you to contribute to the UAdapt project, focusing on adaptive unmanned aircraft systems and flight dynamics simulation with PyFDM. The internship offers hands-on development, testing, and validation of flight control algorithms before hardware deployment.
You will extend PyFDM, add new models, improve architecture, and document results, working with Python and optionally Julia.

From flight dynamics to unmanned aerial vehicles, from simulation to real flight tests - we analyse, test and develop innovations that will shape the flying of the future.
The DLR research project UAdapt develops advanced technologies for adaptive unmanned aircraft systems. A key component of this work is the flight dynamics simulation framework PyFDM, which is used for the development, testing, and validation of flight control algorithms before deployment on real aircraft. PyFDM provides a flexible environment for modeling aircraft dynamics, integrating new vehicle concepts, and evaluating novel control approaches in simulation.
Within this internship, you will contribute to the further development of the PyFDM simulation framework. Depending on your interests and background, the specific topic can be tailored to your expertise. Possible areas include the implementation of new aircraft models, the extension of visualization capabilities, the integration of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) interfaces, or improvements to the software architecture. Your work will directly support ongoing research on autonomous flight control and adaptive aircraft technologies.
