The German Aerospace Center (DLR) Institute of Flight Systems invites motivated students to contribute to the PyFDM flight dynamics framework and adaptive unmanned aircraft research. This internship offers hands-on software development in a simulated environment with real-world relevance to autonomous flight control.
You will extend PyFDM, implement new features, improve architecture, validate results, and document findings.
Welcome to the Institute of Flight Systems. Our work focuses on the interaction between aircraft configuration, pilots and modern flight system technology. From flight dynamics to unmanned aerial vehicles, from simulation to real flight tests - we analyse, test and develop innovations that will shape the flying of the future.
The DLR research project UAdapt develops advanced technologies for adaptive unmanned aircraft systems. A key component of this work is the flight dynamics simulation framework PyFDM, which is used for the development, testing, and validation of flight control algorithms before deployment on real aircraft. PyFDM provides a flexible environment for modeling aircraft dynamics, integrating new vehicle concepts, and evaluating novel control approaches in simulation.
Within this internship, you will contribute to the further development of the PyFDM simulation framework. Depending on your interests and background, the specific topic can be tailored to your expertise. Possible areas include the implementation of new aircraft models, the extension of visualization capabilities, the integration of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) interfaces, or improvements to the software architecture. Your work will directly support ongoing research on autonomous flight control and adaptive aircraft technologies.
We look forward to getting to know you!
