A leading research institute in Darmstadt seeks a dedicated individual to join in developing and automating 3D scanning technologies. The role includes planning scanning operations, capturing data, and ensuring quality in 3D reconstructions. Candidates should have a passion for photography and a solid grounding in mathematics. This position offers flexibility with 10-20 working hours weekly, initially for three months, with a potential extension. Join and contribute to groundbreaking technological innovations.
The Competence Center of Autonomous Digitalization Technologies at Fraunhofer IGD develops and automates 3D scanning technologies for fully automated reconstruction of cultural heritage and industrial objects. Depending on the object characteristics and quality requirements, different capture systems are applied.
Through regular scanning missions and assignments, 3D scans of diverse objects are conducted at scheduled intervals, and the acquired data are processed to compute reconstructions. The results and scanning workflows are also analyzed to drive continuous improvements in the quality and efficiency of our 3D scanning technologies.
You will begin with a structured introduction to our fully autonomous scanning technologies and a hands‑on deep dive into the fundamentals of classical 3D reconstruction for diverse object geometries. In addition, you will independently plan and prepare scanning operations, set up and commission systems and perform calibration. Additional tasks include capturing scan data, processing the data into high‑quality 3D reconstructions, and ensuring quality through robust testing and documentation. You will also be responsible for structured data handoff, system maintenance, and rapid troubleshooting. The goal is the reliable, on‑schedule delivery of precise, complete, and reproducible 3D reconstructions, along with the continuous optimization of system performance and process quality.
The weekly working time is 10-20 hours. The position is initially limited to three months, an extension is intended.
