We are looking for a Storage Platform Expert to operate and evolve EUMETSAT's software-defined and distributed storage platforms supporting mission-critical workloads.
Background
The Infrastructure and Data Division (I2D), within EUMETSAT's Technical and Scientific Support Department (TSS) operates and evolves the Multi-Mission IT Computing (MIC) environment providing 24x7 Infrastructure-as-a-Service platforms, container management platforms, virtualised environments and software-defined storage for EUMETSAT’s operational ground-segment infrastructure.
You shall support
- Administer and operationally support software-defined storage platforms (Ceph, IBM Spectrum Scale / GPFS, MooseFS)
- Perform monitoring, second-level investigation and performance optimisation of storage subsystems
- Provide and manage persistent storage integration for Kubernetes workloads (Ceph, Rook-Ceph, CSI drivers)
- Administer SAN and software-defined storage, including zoning, provisioning and performance tuning
- Support the evolution and lifecycle management of in-house software-defined storage and multi-cloud storage services
- Contribute to backup, resilience and disaster-recovery design and testing
Skills and experiences
- Experience implementing software-based storage solutions such as Ceph, IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) or MooseFS
- Experience with persistent storage integration for Kubernetes (Ceph, Rook-Ceph, CSI drivers)
- Experience with SAN and software-defined storage administration, including zoning, provisioning and performance optimisation
- Experience with enterprise backup and disaster-recovery solutions
- Advanced Linux administration expertise and automation scripting (Bash, Python)
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, NFS, SSH)
- Knowledge of containerisation and Kubernetes orchestration is an advantage
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline from an accredited university, with at least 5 years of relevant experience
- Effective written and verbal communication in English
- Ability to document and maintain technical baselines, operational procedures and architecture diagrams
- Knowledge of ITIL service management processes (incident, change, problem management)
- Willingness to participate in the standby / on‑call rotation and, occasionally, in weekend, public‑holiday or late‑night interventions as agreed in advance

Working Location
This is a full‑time position, located either at our customer EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany or delivered off‑site from Germany, Czechia or Romania, starting in December 2026 onwards. Standby / call‑out support and provision of support to critical operations may sometimes be required.
