Job summary

Enpal is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to own the technical direction of our data platform. You will design and ship scalable pipelines end‑to‑end, from ingestion to dbt models on Snowflake, with orchestration via Airflow on Azure.

You’ll set standards, drive guardrails, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to enable data products safely and quickly. You’ll work at the intersection of dbt, Snowflake, Airflow orchestration, and IaC, owning the integration layer and building self‑service

Qualifications

• 6+ years of data engineering experience with production‑level data platforms.
• Hands‑on dbt at scale, especially data modelling and governance.
• Strong Snowflake knowledge: RBAC, performance, warehouse management.
• Familiar with IaC (Terraform) and GitOps workflows (ArgoCD).
• Experience with orchestration (Airflow) and containerized workloads (Kubernetes/AKS).
• Proficient Python and SQL with testing and reusable libraries.
• Excellent communication and ability to navigate ambiguity across domains.
• Knowledge of data ingestion frameworks (e.g., dlT or similar).

Responsibilities

• Design, build and operate scalable data pipelines from source to dbt models on Snowflake.
• Own the integration layer, connecting diverse sources and making integrations observable and resilient.
• Develop self‑service tooling for domain teams to model sources and tests.
• Define platform direction, patterns, and guardrails; act as technical authority for data platform.
• Manage infrastructure as code with Terraform; align CI/CD with platform policy.
• Enforce federated governance: data contracts, Snowflake RBAC, domain ownership.
• Support privacy and compliance requirements, including metadata-driven PII handling.
• Build observability and testing into the platform; partner with AE/BI to lower entry barrier.

About the Role

Our central data platform is the foundation that Analytics Engineering, BI and increasingly AI-enabled business teams build on top of. You’ll join the team of two Data Engineers, where you’ll define how we build. As a Staff Data Engineer, you build for other engineers rather than for end users or dashboards: you own the technical decisions, pipelines, integrations, tooling and guardrails that let others ship data products safely and fast. You'll work at the intersection of dbt, Snowflake, Airflow orchestration and infrastructure-as-code on Azure – hands‑on, while also setting the technical direction for where the platform goes next, building best practices, vision and roadmap.

Our data arrives from metering devices, operational and legacy systems, external partners and APIs. You own the ingestion and orchestration layer that collects, reshapes and delivers it, including the critical paths the business cannot operate without. You'll drive design decisions and reviews directly with stakeholders across the business domains, set the standards others build on, and turn ambiguous requirements into implementable designs.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build and operate scalable pipelines end to end - from source integration through dbt models on Snowflake, orchestrated with Airflow on Azure.

• Own the integration layer. Connect the platform to heterogeneous source systems - operational databases, external partners, APIs - and make those integrations observable, and resilient.

• Build self-service scaffolding and developer tooling so domain teams can create models, sources, and tests without touching platform internals.

• Drive the platform vision. Define where our data platform needs to go - tooling, abstractions, self‑service, guardrails - and break that direction into increments that land in production. Act as the technical authority for data platform architecture and set the patterns for other engineers to follow.

• Manage infrastructure as code with Terraform, keeping environments reproducible and reviewable. Collaborate closely with the platform team to align deployment policies and CI/CD setup.

• Enforce federated governance: data contracts, RBAC via Snowflake database roles, and domain ownership boundaries.

• Support data privacy and compliance requirements, including metadata-driven PII handling.

• Build observability and testing into the platform so failures are caught before they reach domain teams.

• Partner with AE/BI leads to gather requirements, review designs, document patterns, and continuously lower the barrier to entry.

What We’re Looking For

• 6+ years of data engineering experience; you have owned production‑critical data platforms.

• Deep, hands‑on dbt experience at scale (especially operating the platform around data modelling).

• Solid Snowflake knowledge: RBAC, performance, and warehouse management.

• Comfort with IaC (Terraform) and GitOps (ArgoCD).

• Experience with orchestration (Airflow) and containerized workloads (Kubernetes/AKS).

• Familiarity with modern ingestion frameworks (dlt or similar).

• Software engineering fundamentals: confident Python and advanced SQL, testing, reusable libraries, and a platform-as-product mindset.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder empathy; you enjoy enabling other engineers and can navigate ambiguity in a cross-domain mesh.

Nice to Have

• Experience building internal developer platforms or paved-road tooling.

• Knowledge of data contracts and federated data governance.

• GDPR/DSGVO-aware data handling experience.

• Streaming experience (Kafka or similar) and work with PostgreSQL.
