An international conservation organization seeks a Southern Guyana Coordinator to enhance field operations in Southern Guyana. Ideal candidates will have a Master's in a related field and significant experience in project management and community engagement. The role requires international travel and aims to improve conservation efforts in the Amazon region, with a two-year fixed-term contract available.
Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) is an internationally operating nature conservation organisation based in Germany that has been supporting conservation projects in Africa, South America, Southeast Asia and Europe for many decades. Following our mission to conserve wildlife and ecosystems, we are focusing our work on protected areas and outstanding wilderness places. In South America, FZS concentrates its effort on the Amazon rainforest and has expanded its engagement in the region in recent years. For over 10 years, FZS has been supporting the Protected Areas Commission in Guyana in strengthening management of the national protected areas system with a particular focus on the Kanuku Mountains Protected Area (KMPA). In December 2022, a new cooperation agreement was signed with the Government of Guyana to extend this support and to help the country in its commitment to expanding the protected areas system, initially to 17% and progressively to 30% by 2030.

In view of this, FZS is seeking a Southern Guyana Coordinator (gn) who will strengthen FZS Guyana’s field operation in Southern Guyana. Besides the increased field operations in the KMPA, this position will also develop and set-up new FZS initiatives and activities in Southern Guyana in close collaboration with the Government of Guyana and the Protected Area Commission. The position will be based in Lethem, Guyana, with frequent travels to the current and future project sites in remote protected areas in Guyana and the region. Trips to neighboring countries where FZS is also operating, e.g. Brazil, as well as an annual visit to FZS HQ in Frankfurt is envisaged. The position is a two-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension.
