Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council is seeking a capable solicitor to provide professional support to Adult Services, focusing on advice, advocacy in the Court of Protection, and legal support across Council Directorates and Committees.

The role requires a fully qualified solicitor or barrister with practising certificate; Court of Protection experience is preferred, and a driving licence is essential. The post is predominantly home-based with occasional Court and office attendance.

The successful candidate will provide a professional support service to the Council with particular emphasis upon Adult Services advice and litigation, including advocacy in the Court of Protection and legal support/advice and assistance across all Council Directorates and Committees

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Legal and Compliance Team at Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. This role is responsible for managing a varied caseload of Adult Welfare work and includes advocacy. You will also occasionally provide legal advice and assistance on a diverse range of issues across all Council Directorates and Committees. This role would interest someone who is confident and self-motivated, demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills and who enjoys a varied caseload working in an agile environment which is predominantly home based with Court and office attendance when required. The successful candidate will be a fully qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate. Experience in the Court of Protection is preferred, and Court advocacy experience is essential, not necessarily gained in Local Government.

A full driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.

Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process. The postholder will be required to complete an application for a Disclosure of Criminal Records.
