Entrix in Munich seeks a Software Engineer (Backend) to design, implement and operate our Settlement and Revenue platform, focusing on data ingestion, processing and reporting.

You will collaborate with Operations, Portfolio Management and Finance, participate in code reviews, and handle on-call duties while evolving our cloud-native tech stack.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in Software Engineering (Backend and algorithmic) in the cloud.
• 3+ years experience with Python.
• Strong SQL and data modelling; comfortable with analytical SQL, time-series work, deduplication, late or corrected data, and idempotent rebuilds.
• Great communication skills to effectively bring across complex ideas and concepts with an ability to work on solutions individually.

Responsibilities

Your Responsibilities

• Design, craft, deploy, monitor and maintain our Settlement and Revenue platform end-to-end, across dimensions such as data ingestion and processing, nomination, settlement, invoicing and customer revenue reporting.
• Work cross-functionally, especially with Operations, Portfolio Management and Finance to clarify requirements, confirm expected results before building, and explain data issues in business terms.
• Closely collaborate with fellow software engineers, explain the various trade-offs made in decisions and participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and to distribute knowledge
• Operate what you build. Take part in on-call for the team's systems, investigate production issues, and write runbooks so any teammate can handle common incidents
• Deliver end-to-end. Take small-to-medium projects from a short design proposal through implementation, deployment and maintenance, and ask for feedback from senior engineers on design decisions.
• Maintain and improve our tech stack and development environments and build infrastructure, from how services are developed and tested, to how they are built and integrated, to how they are monitored

Your Profile

Mandatory requirements

• 3+ years experience in Software Engineering (Backend and algorithmic) in the cloud
• 3+ years experience with Python
• Strong SQL and data modelling. Comfortable with analytical SQL, time-series work, deduplication, late or corrected data, and idempotent rebuilds Evidence of being a fast learner
• Great communication skills to effectively bring across complex ideas and concepts with an ability to work on solutions individually
• Experience and desire to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Strategic and analytical thinking
• Full business proficiency in English

Skills to Set You Apart

• Familiarity with AWS cloud platform, and services like Lambda, ApiGW, Iceberg
• data processing pipelines, ETL, dbt
• Energy markets or settlement background: balancing groups, imbalance, nominations/scheduling, aFRR/FCR, invoicing
• Experience with regulated or finance-grade data where numbers must reconcile to the cent: billing, payments, accounting
• Engagement with agentic engineering tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude Code, Codex) to enhance productivity, improve workflows, and contribute new ideas
• Design thinking/sprint experience

Most recently, I led a 13-engineer team at Microsoft, delivering flagship features for Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop, including Windows App, Windows 365 web client, Boot-to-CloudPC, and Windows 365 Switch, while maintaining Remote Desktop clients used by millions of users.

At Microsoft(2011 - 2024), I grew from senior software engineer to tech lead and principal engineering manager. Most recently, I built and led a 13-engineer team delivering key Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop experiences, while maintaining Remote Desktop clients used by millions. Earlier, I worked on Azure IoT, ASP.NET, Entity Framework, Linq2Sql, ClickOnce, Visual Studio, open-source projects, and developer experience improvements.

At Wicresoft(2004 - 2011), I grew from software engineer to engineering lead and senior group manager. I led enterprise software delivery teams, managed Microsoft outsourcing projects with 50+ developers, built new products from the ground up, supported business planning, managed project delivery and margins, and mentored junior engineers.
