Role Overview

The Software Design Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, and implementing software solutions that support automation, operating technology, and digital transformation initiatives across Eurogate’s German terminals. The role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem‑solving skills, and experience with complex, mission‑critical systems. Experience in container terminal operations is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement software systems for operating technology, automation, and asset management.
• Collaborate with engineering, IT, and operations teams to deliver solutions tailored to terminal requirements.
• Develop and integrate applications, APIs, and control systems supporting container handling, yard management, and logistics processes.
• Support the development and deployment of automation and digitalization initiatives (e.g., automated guided vehicles, crane automation, digital twins).
• Perform software architecture design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.
• Integrate software solutions with SCADA, PLCs, and industrial control systems.
• Ensure cybersecurity compliance and reliability of mission‑critical systems.
• Participate in the full software lifecycle, from concept through delivery and ongoing optimization.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring for junior engineers and developers.
• Evaluate and adopt new technologies to improve system performance, resilience, and scalability.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years’ professional experience in software engineering, operating technology, and automation systems.
• Proven track record in designing and implementing software for mission‑critical, industrial, or logistics applications.
• Strong knowledge of programming (e.g., Java, C++, Python, C#) and modern development frameworks.
• Experience with industrial automation, SCADA/PLC integration, and control systems.
• Familiarity with container terminal operations or heavy industry logistics systems is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in database management, APIs, and integration platforms.
• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity practices for industrial/operational environments.
• Excellent communication skills in English (German a strong advantage).
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage stakeholders, and deliver solutions on time.

Skills

• Experience in real‑time systems and distributed architectures.
• Knowledge of IoT platforms, machine learning applications, or predictive analytics.
• Familiarity with cloud‑based infrastructure and containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of sustainability‑driven digital solutions in logistics and port operations.
