Job description

Type of employment: Temporary / Part-time; (20 hours / week)

Join us in Berlin as a PhD student (m/f/d) specializing in Prospective Life Cycle Assessment in the Circular Economy and help shape the sustainable industry of tomorrow – develop methods that truly make a difference and contribute your ideas directly to real Siemens projects! Are you ready to set the course for a better future today?

Change the world of tomorrow:
  • You develop innovative methods of prospective life cycle assessment to capture the long-term environmental impacts of industrial systems in the context of the circular economy.
  • For this, you model future scenarios for energy supply, material availability, and technological developments so that these can be used for life cycle assessment.
  • You take into account the impact of future regional and climatic changes on technologies and production processes.
  • Finally, you validate your approaches using real-world applications, prepare the results in a way that is understandable for industry and science, and actively integrate them into ongoing projects.
Here’s how to convince us:
  • Education: You are currently successfully studying environmental science, sustainability science, process engineering or a related field of study with a focus on system modeling and environmental impacts and are aiming for a doctorate.
  • Experience and knowledge
    • You have sound knowledge of life cycle assessment (LCA) and ideally experience with prospective approaches or scenario modeling.
    • You are familiar with LCA software such as SimaPro, LCA for Experts or Brightway, as well as databases such as ecoinvent
    • You have programming skills, for example in Python or R, for data processing and scenario modeling.
  • Working style: You impress with your analytical strength, innovative spirit, and ability to present complex results in an understandable way.
  • Language skills: Excellent German and English skills, enabling you to present results to both industry partners and specialist audiences.

You are so much more than your qualifications, and we believe in the potential of every single person. We look forward to getting to know you!

At Siemens, we are convinced that those who feel valued and like they belong can fully develop their potential.
