Substation Protection & Control Engineer
Leidos is looking for a Substation Protection & Control Engineer to design substation protection and control projects for electric utilities at voltages from 12 kV up to 500 kV. The role includes digital logic design, AC and DC circuit analysis, schematic and wiring design, and project lifecycle support.
Location & Work Arrangement
- Location: Denver, CO or Minneapolis, MN (must be located in one of these areas).
- Travel: Must be willing to travel to customer sites.
- Work Hours: Flexible work hours and arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare single‑line and three‑line AC schematic designs.
- Design DC protection schematics and panel layouts.
- Create wiring designs and perform quality control checks.
- Develop bills of materials based on design criteria.
- Support entire project lifecycle from scoping to implementation.
- Provide construction support and post‑construction validation.
- Apply National Electrical Safety Code minimum requirements and client standards.
- Collaborate with designers, drafters, and CAD technicians.
- Prepare studies and reports for transmission and distribution systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Two or more years of substation protection & control design and/or field testing/commissioning experience.
- Experience with one‑line, three‑line, AC/DC schematic, and wiring drawings.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact with internal teams and clients.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- High level of computer competency.
- Self‑starter who works independently with minimal direction.
- Detail oriented collaborator and leader.
- Willingness to travel to project/client sites and headquarters.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or professional engineer (PE) license.
- Experience performing quality control checks on substation protection projects.
- Experience with CAD tools.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Field testing/commissioning experience.
