Overview

Cara Care, a digital health company backed by Bayer AG, is on a mission to improve people's digestive health through technology. We are expanding our product portfolio and modernizing our platform and are looking for a versatile, pragmatic, and forward-thinking Senior Software Engineer (m/f/x) to help shape the future of digital therapeutics.

Your role involves joining a cross-functional product team with high ownership, lean processes, and a clear focus: deliver real impact to patients. We value problem-solving with code, technology openness, and knowing when to build fast or right.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate scalable software components across our stack—from backend APIs to patient-facing mobile and web applications.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Medical teams to explore, define, and deliver new product features and improve the current platform.
• Drive technical excellence in architecture, code quality, and security, particularly under healthcare regulations (ISO 62304, TR-03161, MDR).
• Contribute to a platform powering multiple regulated digital health products across indications such as IBS, GERD, and upcoming expansions.
• Mentor other developers and raise the technical bar across the team.

Requirements / Your Profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally across backend and frontend.
• Strong backend skills (Python, Django, PostgreSQL) and solid web/mobile frontend experience (React, TypeScript; React Native a plus).
• Comfort with modern DevOps (CI/CD, Docker, GCP/GKE, Linux).
• Experience in product-centric teams and working closely with non-technical stakeholders.
• Curiosity, pragmatism, and a drive to continuously improve both product and platform.
• Passionate about integrating AI into daily work.
• Bonus: experience in regulated industries, healthcare, or security-conscious environments.

Note: Cara Care is a remote-first company with a fully distributed team. All team members are based in Germany, so candidates must reside in Germany to join us.
