Job summary

IONOS is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (f/m/d) to develop and maintain the NFS product for IONOS Cloud. You will build and extend Kubernetes Operators that manage the product’s lifecycle and design features that ensure high availability and redundancy, including failover.

You will contribute to reliability and replication, analyze complex issues in a highly distributed storage environment, and migrate from legacy components without disrupting customers.

Qualifications

• Expert Go skills and several years of professional development experience.
• Knowledge of NFS and SMB/CIFS; experience with ZFS and DRBD.
• Experience building highly available, redundant systems including replication and failover.
• Deep knowledge of Linux (kernel) and experience with LinuxKit and VMs (libvirt, QEMU, cloud-init).
• Fluency with Git, Docker, shell and CI/CD, including GitOps (ArgoCD).
• Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
• Daily use of AI coding assistants (Claude).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; independent with team collaboration.
• Willingness to undergo security clearance (SÜ-2).

IONOS Cloud offers NFS as a managed service, and you develop and maintain it. The product is highly available and redundant, so customer data stays accessible even when a component fails. It runs on Kubernetes and is written mostly in Go.

Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of NFS and SMB/CIFS, plus experience with ZFS and DRBD.
• Experience building highly available, redundant systems, including replication, failover and distributed-systems fundamentals (idempotency, retries, consistency, failure handling).
• Deep knowledge of Linux, including the kernel, and experience with LinuxKit and VMs (libvirt, QEMU, cloud-init).
• Fluency with Git, Docker, shell and CI/CD, including GitOps workflows (for example ArgoCD).
• Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana) to monitor availability and troubleshoot issues.
• Daily use of AI coding assistants (for example Claude) in your development work.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a structured, independent way of working in a team.
• Willingness to undergo a security clearance (SÜ-2).
