Overview

The Senior Project Manager (m/f/d) – Cost Controlling role at cylib.

Responsibilities

• You take a leading role in cost controlling for our industrialization projects and thereby ensure financial transparency and efficiency across different workstreams and disciplines. This includes the proactive communication of budget risks.
• You develop, manage, and continuously improve complex Excel-based and BI tools for project cost tracking, forecasting, and management reporting.
• You collaborate closely with project managers and process engineers to challenge and validate the technical assumptions of cost models – e.g. mass and energy balances or chemicals consumption for hydrometallurgical recycling processes.
• You drive the professionalization of our overall project controlling by establishing best practices and implementing ERP-integrated and automated solutions.
• You develop professional cost models for early-stage industrialization projects in hydrometallurgical battery recycling, including scenario analyses and detailed cost breakdowns.
• You contribute to professional risk management and project governance by maintaining risk registers, defining mitigation measures, and preparing clear governance reports.

Qualifications

• You have relevant experience (> 3 years) in cost controlling, financial modelling and analysis, or project management - ideally on large-scale CapEx factory construction projects.
• You have taken responsibility for budgeting and monthly reporting processes.
• You are highly proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, including advanced functions (pivot tables, VBA, data analysis) and you create professional management reports.
• You have practical experience with Power BI or comparable BI tools, and you can build and maintain databases and data pipelines.
• You work in a structured, proactive, and independent manner.
• You demonstrate strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• You hold a technical or business-related degree (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Business Administration with a technical focus, or similar).
• Knowledge of SAP and Autodesk Construction Cloud is an advantage.
• Certifications such as PRINCE2, PMP, or IPMA are an advantage.
• You speak fluent English, good German skills are a plus.

About Us

cylib is a research-based German scaleup for holistic battery recycling - starting from discharging to recovery of all components of the lithium battery - that was founded in Aachen in 2022 by three visionary founders, including a female CEO.

Our process

The cylib process offers a complete end-to-end process from battery pack to green battery material by employing a combination of mechanical and thermal pre-treatments and an innovative water-based lithium and graphite recovery. Unlike incumbents, cylib can therefore recover battery materials such as lithium, graphite or manganese. The process was developed over several years of research at the renown RWTH Aachen University and offers an efficient, resource- and climate friendly recovery of all battery materials from end-of-life batteries.

cylib's technology enables the recovery of all battery components regardless of whether it is an end-of-life battery or not. Recovery of green secondary raw materials from the cylib process enables the realization of the true Circular Economy on the European market.
