About the Role – Senior Product Engineer – Safety

In this role, you will be responsible for developing safety products — such as Front Airbags, Side Airbags, Driver Airbags & Steering Wheels — according to the latest laws, OEM requirements and consumer protection protocols.

Based on your fundamental mechanical engineering capability you will lead the technical development within a global Engineering organization according to the approved budget and customer timeline, ensuring compliance with Yanfeng processes, Platform Engineering standards and delivering engineering excellence.

This position also offers the opportunity to collaborate globally, engage with customers, and contribute to standardized best practices across the organization.

Your Responsibilities

Product Development

• Define and develop safety products based on Yanfeng’s platform strategy, customer requirements, and current safety legislation.
• Ensure on-time development using resources efficiently and within the approved budget.
• Provide technical support in supplier selection and validate technical decisions based on cost–benefit considerations.
• Serve as technical customer contact for assigned programs and contribute to requirements clarification (with supervision where needed).
• Organizes communication, initiates actions and follows up between customer and Yanfeng departments, following Yanfeng product launch and program execution strategy
• Compiles reports and program documentation and presents program status at the customer

Quotation & New Business Support

• Leverage state‑of‑the‑art technical knowledge, crash‑test legislation, and customer expectations to build successful engineering development plans (validation pan & report acc. given timing and development budget)
• Defining EBOM ensuring a lean product that fulfills the technical requirements
• Support RfQ process for new business awards with well‑founded technical proposals.

Knowledge Management & Capability Building

• Lead the project engineering team to apply airbag module concepts. This requires design adaptation of the sub component parts, making the airbag module fit into the individual vehicle environment and this in accordance with all restraint performance requirements.
• Collaborate globally with Subject Matter Technical Experts (SMTEs) to share best engineering practices.
• Capture and communicate lessons learned across the global team.
• Support supplier development in line with the company’s strategy to enhance technical capabilities and competitiveness.
• Supports teams in technical choices, shows the right direction for projects and discloses his knowledge to teams or beginners

What You Bring

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or similar.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in safety systems development or related fields.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to work with global teams.
• Fluent English and German communication
• Customer‑orientation, problem‑solving mindset, and structured working style.
• Valid German work permit and residence authorization, allowing employment.

Location:

All Germany (open to travel in accordance with role and project requirements).
