Hypersonica is seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to own the electrical power system architecture for Europe’s next-gen high-speed flight vehicles in Munich. You will define requirements, drive system-level design and coordinate with avionics, controls, software, and mechanical teams to ensure rigorous traceability from concept to flight readiness.

What you'll do

• Own the electrical power system architecture for Hypersonica's high-speed flight vehicles, ensuring generation, conversion, storage, distribution, protection, and monitoring functions operate as a coherent and resilient system.
• Define, manage, and maintain power system requirements, ensuring full traceability from mission and vehicle-level needs through subsystem design, verification, and validation.
• Develop power-system architectures and performance budgets covering voltage regulation, load management, efficiency, redundancy, thermal constraints, fault tolerance, and mission-critical availability.
• Lead the integration of power generation, battery systems, power electronics, energy storage, distribution networks, protection devices, and control systems across vehicle and payload architectures.
• Conduct electrical system analyses including load-flow, transient response, fault analysis, protection coordination, power quality, thermal performance, and reliability assessments.
• Define and support system-level modelling, simulation, laboratory testing, environmental qualification, and vehicle integration activities, using data-driven analysis to improve performance and mitigate risk.
• Produce and maintain critical engineering artefacts including specifications, electrical schematics, interface control documents (ICDs), analysis reports, verification plans, and design review material.
• Apply systems engineering and MBSE principles to ensure traceability between requirements, architectures, analyses, verification activities, and flight-test outcomes.
• Identify and mitigate system-level risks associated with power availability, thermal loading, EMC performance, reliability, safety, integration complexity, and operational resilience.
• Act as a technical authority across electrical power systems, collaborating closely with avionics, controls, software, thermal, mechanical, EMC, and systems engineering teams to deliver robust vehicle capability.

Who you are

• An experienced Power Systems Engineer with 8+ years of experience delivering complex electrical power, energy storage, avionics, aerospace, defence, automotive, space, or other mission-critical systems.
• Strong background in electrical system architecture, requirements management, systems integration, verification, and validation across the full engineering lifecycle.
• Deep understanding of electrical power generation, power conversion, battery systems, energy storage, power distribution, protection systems, and power electronics.
• Experienced in electrical analysis including load-flow studies, transient response, fault analysis, protection coordination, power quality, thermal performance, and reliability assessments.
• Comfortable designing and integrating high-performance electrical power systems within highly constrained environments where weight, volume, efficiency, and thermal management are critical.
• Familiar with systems engineering and MBSE approaches, using structured methods to manage complexity, interfaces, traceability, and technical risk.
• Experienced supporting major design reviews, qualification campaigns, integration programmes, and the transition from concept through detailed design and verification.
• Technically credible across multiple engineering disciplines, capable of influencing decisions, challenging assumptions, and driving technical direction.
• Comfortable operating in ambitious, fast-paced environments where priorities evolve quickly and engineering decisions have significant programme impact.
• Motivated by solving difficult engineering problems and delivering technologies that strengthen European sovereign defence capability.

Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be an EU/Nato/German citizen and be eligible for German Security Clearance.
