Your mission :

The Senior Network & Security engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and operational management of the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA)’s network, security, and hybrid cloud infrastructure. This includes oversight of data center switches, WAN / LAN architecture, Cisco SDA, and cloud connectivity. The role also involves providing project management advisory support for infrastructure modernization and lifecycle transitions.

Work Location and Travel

Our client’s Headquarters is in Malta; however remote work from home and when needed, from one of their satellite offices based in Brussels, Madrid, Rome, Cyprus, and Athens is allowed as agreed with their IT management department. The infrastructure also includes a Disaster Recovery (DR) site in Strasbourg, which will require quarterly onsite presence, each lasting approximately one week. All travel will be coordinated in advance with our client’s IT management and aligned with project or maintenance schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead operations and maintenance of Cisco LAN / WLAN infrastructure (Catalyst 2960, 3850, Nexus, and DC series).
• Manage Palo Alto firewalls (PA-220, PA-820 / 850 / 5220 / 3410) and Panorama for centralized policy control.
• Supervise data center network fabric, including core and aggregation switch configurations.
• Provide project management and advisory support for network / security upgrades, migrations, and cloud integration projects.
• Assist in defining technical roadmaps aligned with EOS / EOL timelines and cloud adoption strategy.
• Implement and maintain hybrid connectivity between on-premises infrastructure and cloud environments (Azure / AWS).
• Develop and maintain network topology, security architecture, and configuration documentation.
• Troubleshoot complex network and security incidents, coordinating with SOC and vendors when needed.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to skill development across the team.
• Participate in audits, compliance checks and capacity planning activities.

Your profile : Technical Skills :

• Cisco switching / routing (IOS, IOS-XE, NX-OS) and wireless (Aironet, Catalyst APs).
• Experience with Cisco Software-Defined Access (SDA) and DNA Center for automation and policy management.
• Palo Alto NGFW and Panorama.
• Cloud networking and security (Azure VNets, AWS VPCs, VPN / IPSec tunnels).
• Data center fabric design and operations (spine-leaf, virtualization, VLANs, ACLs, BGP, OSPF).
• Network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Cisco DNA Center, etc.).
• Project coordination and reporting for infrastructure programs.
• Scripting (Python or Ansible) – desirable.

Education

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in IT, Telecommunications or related field.

Soft Skills

• Strong leadership and project coordination capabilities.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to risk and lifecycle management.
• Ability to collaborate across technical and business teams to drive modernization initiatives.
• Fluent in English; any other EU language being considered as an asset.

Certifications (preferred)

• Cisco CCNP Enterprise or CCNP Data Center
• Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)
• Microsoft Azure Administrator or AWS Solutions Architect (Associate)
• ITIL v4 Foundation
• Prince2 Foundation or PMI-PMP (desirable)
