Job summary

European Tech Recruit is hiring a Senior ML Research Engineer in Berlin. You will bridge ML research and engineering, translating novel ideas into scalable, production-grade ML workflows.

You’ll work across model development, training, inference, and large-scale experimentation, leveraging PyTorch/JAX/TensorFlow, GPUs and modern infrastructure to push research to real-world impact.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering or related field.
• At least 5+ years of full-time professional experience designing and implementing ML workflows or ML systems.
• Proven track record on deep learning or ML research projects.
• Hands-on with PyTorch, JAX or TensorFlow.
• Experience with large-scale model training, fine-tuning or inference.
• Strong distributed computing and high-performance ML workload knowledge.
• Experience with GPUs, HPC or large-scale cloud compute.
• Strong Python and/or C++ software engineering skills.
• Experience with AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and modern ML infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with ML researchers and engineers to accelerate model development, training, inference and experimentation.

• Design and implement workflows for ML experiments from small projects to large distributed workloads.

Join a highly technical AI research and engineering organisation working on the development of advanced machine learning systems. The team brings together ML research scientists, engineers and infrastructure specialists to tackle challenging problems across model development, training, inference and large-scale experimentation. As a Senior ML Research Engineer, you will sit directly alongside research teams, translating novel ideas and experimental concepts into robust implementations and scalable workflows.

The Senior ML Research Engineer will work across machine learning software, distributed computing and high-performance computing, helping researchers run increasingly complex experiments efficiently.

This Senior ML Research Engineer position is particularly suited to someone who enjoys operating at the boundary between ML research and engineering and wants to have a direct impact on how advanced AI systems are developed and evaluated.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with ML research scientists and engineers to accelerate model development, training, inference and experimentation.
• Translate novel research concepts, model architectures and experimental ideas into reliable, production-quality implementations.
• Design and implement workflows for ML experiments ranging from small-scale research projects to large distributed workloads.
• Develop tools, libraries and infrastructure to improve the efficiency, scalability and reproducibility of machine learning workflows.
• Identify technical bottlenecks across model training and inference and develop solutions to improve performance and utilisation of compute resources.
• Work with distributed and high-performance computing environments, including GPU-intensive workloads.
• Establish engineering best practices around ML experimentation, documentation, testing and reproducibility.
• Collaborate across research, engineering and infrastructure teams as technical requirements evolve.

Required Experience & Skills

• MSc or PhD or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 5+ years of full-time professional experience designing and implementing complex machine learning workflows or ML systems.
• Demonstrated experience contributing to technically demanding deep learning or ML research projects.
• Strong hands-on experience with major ML frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX or TensorFlow.
• Experience with large-scale model training, fine-tuning and/or inference.
• Strong understanding of distributed computing and high-performance ML workloads.
• Experience working with GPUs, HPC environments or large-scale cloud compute.
• Strong software engineering skills, particularly in Python and/or C++.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and modern ML infrastructure.
