At Atolls, we are seeking a Senior Java Backend Engineer to join our Engineering team in Munich or remotely from Germany. You will design, build, and scale high-performance backend systems using Java technologies and cloud-native architectures, delivering reliable services across markets.

You will collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and DevOps, implement AI-enabled features, and mentor junior engineers while maintaining strong engineering standards and scalable data models.

Qualifikationen

• 8+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong Java 17 expertise with modern Java versions.
• Extensive Spring Boot and Spring Reactive experience.
• Solid MySQL knowledge; NoSQL (DynamoDB or MongoDB) experience.
• Hands-on Kubernetes experience.
• Proficiency with microservice architectures and event-driven systems.
• Experience building and consuming GraphQL APIs.
• Proven performance optimization and testing experience.
• Excellent English communication skills.

Responsibilities:

As a Senior Java Backend Engineer, you will:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services usingJava 17 or other recent versions (11+).
• Build and evolve microservice-based and event-driven architectures
• Develop APIs using GraphQL
• Work with Spring Boot and Spring Reactive (WebFlux)
• Design and optimize data models using MySQL and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB or MongoDB)
• Ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability of backend systems
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
• Implement performance testing and end-to-end testing
• Collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and DevOps
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical best practices
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership when needed
• Collaborate on AI-enabled features, including prompt engineering and backend integrations

Your Profile:

• 8+ years of professional experience in backend development
• Strong expertise in Java 17 or other recent versions (11+)
• Extensive experience with Spring Boot and Spring Reactive
• Solid knowledge of MySQL and experience with NoSQL databases (DynamoDB or MongoDB)
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes
• Strong understanding of microservice architecture and event-driven systems
• Experience building and consuming GraphQL APIs
• Proven experience with performance optimization and testing
• Experience with end-to-end testing strategies
• Experience with prompt engineering for AI-powered applications
• Excellent understanding of software design and architectural patterns
• Ability to design elegant, scalable, and maintainable system architectures
• Strong communication skills and excellent English proficiency
