MRL Consulting GmbH in Germany seeks a skilled mechanical/optical engineer to design and refine opto-mechanical assemblies, producing 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings in line with internal standards.

You will design tooling for plastic injection molding, fixtures for alignment and testing, and work with optics teams on tolerance chains to optimize mechanical and optical performance, while coordinating with suppliers on manufacturability.

• Develop and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings for optical and precision-mechanical assemblies, in line with internal standards and relevant technical norms
• Design, simulate, and refine tooling concepts for plastic injection molding
• Create fixtures and tooling for assembly, alignment, testing, measurement, and calibration of optical and mechatronic components
• Work closely with optics engineers on tolerance chains, mounting solutions, and how mechanical design choices affect optical performance
• Coordinate with suppliers and internal production teams on manufacturability, material selection, and suitable process routes
• Assess alternative design approaches and recommend improvements around performance, cost, and producibility
• Contribute to DFM-reviews and translate input from manufacturing and quality teams into design changes
• Help evolve internal design standards, tooling approaches, and simulation processes over time

What you bring

• A strong university degree in mechanical engineering, precision engineering, optical/photonics engineering, mechatronics, or a related discipline
• Several years of hands on experience developing opto-mechanical systems
• Solid grounding in design methodologies and simulation tools for injection mold tooling, and experience embedding these into reliable development workflows
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, a keen eye for detail, and a structured, documentation-focused way of working
