SAP is seeking an experienced software engineer to design and run multi-tenant cloud-native SaaS services on SAP BTP and Kubernetes. You will drive agent development, orchestration, and secure deployments while shaping architectural decisions with the team in Walldorf.
Required are strong Java/Spring Boot skills, DevOps excellence, and deep knowledge of microservices, Kafka, and SAP S/4HANA integration. German and English fluency is essential for collaborating across regions.
Work within a global development network where sharing expertise and learning from diverse perspectives is the norm. You will contribute to standards and grow your impact across teams and regions.
What you'll bring:
You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience, and 5+ years of professional software development experience with a track record of delivering complex cloud-based solutions. Excellent Java skills and solid experience with Spring Boot and related frameworks, including REST, OData, and asynchronous, event-driven communication, are required, along with sound knowledge of object-oriented design, design patterns, and microservice architecture.
Solid DevOps experience is essential: CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or comparable), Infrastructure as Code (for example Terraform), and operating production workloads with monitoring and alerting. You have hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including Helm and cluster provisioning, as well as with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and messaging or streaming platforms such as Kafka. Knowledge of SAP BTP (Kyma, Gardener) is a plus, as is experience with SAP S/4HANA integration or SAP supply chain and order management processes (SD, ATP).
You bring first practical experience with, or a strong interest in, agent development: LLM APIs, agent frameworks, tool calling, MCP, RAG, prompt and context engineering, and working with agentic coding tools. You communicate well, work proactively as a team player, and make sound technical decisions independently. You're willing to keep learning, explore new topics, and lead them. Fluency in German and English, spoken and written, is required.
What you'll build:
You'll design and implement multi-tenant, scalable, fault-tolerant, and secure cloud-native SaaS services (Java, Spring Boot) on SAP BTP and Kubernetes, including event-driven microservices and integrations with Kafka and SAP S/4HANA. You'll own the full lifecycle of these services ("you build it, you run it"): provisioning and operating Kubernetes infrastructure (Gardener / Kyma on SAP BTP) with Infrastructure as Code, managing Helm charts and deployments, and continuously improving CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) to drive automation across the software delivery lifecycle.
You'll drive agent development by designing and building agentic workflows and AI agents (LLM integration, tool calling, orchestration of multi-step flows) and by exposing our services as tools for agents, for example via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Agentic coding tools are part of your daily work, and you'll help the team establish effective practices for them.
You'll take ownership of the technical design of features together with the team, document key decisions, and present them to technical and non-technical stakeholders. High quality in development and operations, including clean code, automated testing, monitoring, and incident handling, is something you'll ensure. You'll advise the product owner and team members on technical feasibility and readiness, identify opportunities for reuse of concepts and components and for cross-team synergies, and propose improvements and innovations in the product as well as in development processes and methodologies.
Where you belong:
You'll join a cloud development team in Order Management Services, where agility and teamwork are key values. Together we help our customers fulfill their customers' wishes across all order processes: delivery, orders, returns, reservations, and pick up in store. We work at the edge of new technologies, such as Kyma on SAP BTP, GitHub Actions, and agentic development, and embrace innovative technology and new ideas. You'll find a challenging and fun working environment with smart, dynamic colleagues and plenty of opportunities to show your abilities and learn new skills. Collaborating closely with colleagues, mentoring less experienced developers, and supporting their growth are part of the role. The team is based in Walldorf.
We value the skills you bring and support you to build on them through our learning and development opportunities. These are the skills associated with this role:
Agentic AI Day-to-Day Practice, AI Adoption Capability, AI Output Quality Assurance, Context Engineering, AI-assisted Automation and Prototyping, Agentic Engineering, Agentic Orchestration, AI-Assisted Engineering, Application Security, Cloud Architecture, CI/CD, High Availability Engineering, Observability, Learning Agility, Collaboration, Complex Problem Solving, Creative Thinking, Effective Communication
mastery of advanced analytics and ML, from causal inference to optimization and experimentation design, alongside strong storytelling and stakeholder management skills.
