Zusammenfassung

Tradebyte, part of the Zalando Group, is building a centralized Data Lakehouse from scratch to elevate data to a first-class citizen. You’ll own the Data Refinery from ingestion to business-ready products in the Gold layer, partnering with source systems and the Zalando Data Foundation.

The role requires Databricks, Delta Live Tables, Unity Catalog, PySpark, SQL and AWS. We offer a hybrid model in Germany or the UK, generous vacation, relocation support, and health and wellbeing programs.

Qualifikationen

• Experience with Databricks ecosystem (Unity Catalog, Delta Live Tables) and Delta Lake architecture.
• Proficiency in Python, Spark (PySpark) and SQL for building scalable data pipelines.
• Knowledge of CDC ingestion and reliable data pipeline design.
• Familiarity with AWS services (S3, IAM) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).

THE ROLE AND THE TEAM

This role is centered on building a Centralized Data Lakehouse from scratch. The team's mission is to elevate "Data as Exhaust" into "Data as a 1st Class Citizen," focusing on reliable and repeatable insights through high data quality, robust Medallion architectures, and sustainable designs. Key factors for the 2026 strategy include a "Product Mindset" towards data and intense collaboration and knowledge-sharing with the Zalando Data Foundation.

WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Take end-to-end ownership of the Data Refinery, driving the lifecycle from ingestion (CDC) to delivering business-ready data products in the Gold layer.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable ELT pipelines utilizing Databricks Delta Live Tables (DLT).
• Partner with source system owners to define clear data contracts and uphold robust governance and security standards within the Unity Catalog.
• Champion data quality and pipeline reliability by leading technical and root cause analysis.
• Foster a collaborative data culture by building strong partnerships with development teams and the Zalando Data Foundation.

• Databricks & Lakehouse Expertise: Experience with the Databricks ecosystem (Unity Catalog, Delta Live Tables) and Delta Lake architecture.
• Data Engineering & Spark: Proficiency in Python, Apache Spark (PySpark), and SQL for building scalable, high-performance data pipelines.
• CDC & Ingestion: Experience designing and maintaining reliable CDC pipelines from relational databases.
• Infrastructure & Cloud (AWS): Knowledge of AWS services (S3, IAM, EC2) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) using modern CI/CD and Git workflows.
• Collaborative Modeling & Communication: Ability to translate business needs into data models and document designs effectively, with strong communication skills to explain technical trade-offs to cross-functional peers.
