OKATIM Germany GmbH offers challenging roles in a digital consulting environment. You will design, implement, and test distributed communication systems for real-time and mission-critical applications, using UDP, TCP, QUIC and multicast, with emphasis on QoS, latency, and deterministic behavior.

You have several years of experience with distributed systems, strong protocol knowledge, and proficiency in Rust, C++, or C. English is required; German is a plus.

• Design, implement and test distributed communication and networking systems for real-time, mission-critical applications.
• Develop transport and middleware layers using UDP, TCP, QUIC and multicast with QoS, flow control and serialization.
• Build deterministic communication for distributed systems including time synchronization and latency management.
• Handle state distribution, consistency and synchronization across distributed environments.
• Integrate DDS/RTPS-based publish/subscribe frameworks and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams.

Salary: approx. €90.600 - €120.000 gross per annum or for freelancer

Your tasks:

• Design, implement and test distributed communication and networking systems for real-time and mission-critical applications.
• Develop transport and middleware layers using UDP, TCP, QUIC and multicast, including quality of service, flow control and serialization mechanisms.
• Build deterministic communication capabilities for distributed systems, including time synchronization, event ordering and latency management.
• Design and implement mechanisms for state distribution, consistency and synchronization across distributed environments.
• Develop and integrate DDS/RTPS-based or comparable publish/subscribe communication frameworks.
• Collaborate with Software, Hardware, Systems and Integration Engineers to deliver production-ready solutions.
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues across application software, middleware, networking layers and hardware platforms.

Your profile:

• You have several years of professional experience designing distributed systems, communication platforms or networking middleware.
• You possess strong knowledge of network protocols and transport technologies such as IP, TCP, UDP, QUIC, multicast, TLS and WireGuard.
• You write clear and maintainable systems software, ideally in Rust, C++ or C.
• You understand real-time networking, latency-sensitive systems and deterministic communication architectures.
• You have experience with state synchronization, consistency models and distributed-system trade-offs.
• You communicate effectively with engineers, programme managers and external stakeholders and confidently take ownership of complex technical topics.
• You hold a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Due to statutory security and export control requirements within the defence sector, only applicants holding citizenship of a NATO or EU member state can be considered for this position.
• Fluency in English is required; German language skills are an advantage.
